Went to Erin Mills Acura today and they want $130 for the blank plus $25 for cutting the new key.....that's $175 all in....

WTF is wrong with them...$175 for a piece of plastic and some cheap metal.... f@#$%$g a@#$%$#s !!!!

They have you by the "short and curlies". I think (and I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong) that includes programing the key into the car computer.

Acura Parts @ AcuraOEMparts.com - Genuine Acura OEM Parts from Delray Acura

If you're referring to the keyless entry key (#8), Delray Acura has them for $23.

If you're referring to the non-keyless entry key + transmitter (#7), they're $86.

Ah, I only linked to the parts available for the Base model non-keyless entry parts. Same diagram, but takes out the parts Base model owners wouldn't want to buy anyway lol

Oh, and the MSRP price for the brand new keyfob is $122.97 (PN: 72147-TK4-A71 FOB ASSY., ENTRY KEY), so your local stealership is probably trying to charge you for the whole damn thing rather than just the emergency key...

Thanks a lot for your help!
Actually my local STEALERSHIP wants $130 for the emergency blank + 25 to cut it (they send it out to some shop to have it done) and another $130 for the fob plus programing and I would have to make a service appointment to have it synchronised with the car...so the grand total for the complete unit would be around $322

I asked why so much for an emergency key...? and the idiot behind the counter said ...oh its got a chip in it and it needs to be programmed and laser cut....I told him there is no chip in the blank emergency key...he kept telling me that there is...

....and why do they call it a"laser cut key"...the last thing they use to cut it is a laser....all the blanks are milled....not laser cut....

very disappointed customer here..
will check with another stealership if I get the same BS.....

^^^^^

That link was referred to the base model trim TL, that has the metal key ignition system.

You'll have to back out of the vehicle selection choice, and reselect either the Tech trim or Advance trim TL, that has the key fob entry system.

I have seen them....but they are not genuine Acura keys...
I contacted the seller and was told ...manufactured to oem specifications....they would probably work as good as oem products...

Damn fools... are they even understanding which key you're referring to? Not a blank entry key with the transponder... not a blank valet key... ask them to pull out the keyless entry emergency key (give them the part number), then tell them get in the car and try to figure out how to turn it on with that key. If they can't figure it out, it doesn't have an immobilizer chip to be programmed lol.

And I just looked through both the owners manual and the Haynes service manual with neither mentioning anything about the keyless emergency key having any association with the immobilizer unit.

I had my spare fob with me and I showed them what I need...it does not get any simpler than that...and I also tested starting the car with fob only(emergency key removed)...IT DOES START... NO F@#$%^G CHIP IN IT TO PROGRAM!!!!

It just makes you wonder if they have idiots like that working on our cars....
