Bad MPG - after intake removal
I have a 2009 base AWD. I had an intake on my car, briefly, it kept tripping MAF light. Tried cleaning MAF several times, no luck on light staying off. My HWY mpg is usually 22, I drive to/from work 95% highway at 70mph. In town, I get 16-17avg.
Are my expectations wrong? When I had Accords, CRV, Civics, and my Pilot I would get at least the HWY sticker mpg, if not more when cruising. With the TL I'm just not there.

There is something more going on if you are getting errors. How are you resetting?

It is possible that POS intake you bought screwed something up.
Here's what he had installed for the more knowledgeable auto-techs out there: https://acurazine.com/forums/4g-tl-performance-parts-modifications-295/ebay-intake-%2470-shipped-fits-tl-753134/#post11620369

Something is definitely amiss if that's the MPG you're getting. I drive 50/50 highway vs. urban/suburban (trip meter shows about 35 mph average speed) and I'm averaging 24-25 overall, with about 2800 miles on the car.

Maybe it's the "not" CAI he installed. Warmer temps are here and killing his mpg. I personally don't understand the concept of an ebay intake on my car, but that's just MY opinion.

I also have been getting dismal MPG on my 2010 AWD TL, I usually get 15-17MPG in the city and around 20 on the highway. Needless to say I'm very disapointed, I just don't know how some of you guys are getting much higher MPG's. My TL has around 3,000 miles and I drive at moderate speeds. Any ideas anyone? Also, I get some hesitation when accelerating, I have changed gasoline brands twice and I only use 91 octane.

No Mods made to my TL. I also would like to mention that I have HPT, not sure if that would male a difference to my MPG. One more thing I forgot to mention, The engine sounds quite loud with a "knocking" sound, not refined as I expected.

Have you thought about taking the car to the dealer? I'm sure its still under warranty. As long as you put the stock intake back on they will never know the difference. Knocking from the engine isn't a good sign, I would have it checked right away.

an adult perspective
Filled up Thursday. Car only had 20,405 miles on it at time of fill-up. Computer showed mpg @ 26.2 ... real mileage was 26.56 (504.3 miles / 18.985 gallons), with last 15 miles being parking lot to parking lot. HPT option, with only mod wider aftermarket wheels on factory Michelins. Daily comute is 67 miles each way @ a Cruise Control imposed 68 mpg in a '10 AWD TL. This offered in an attempt to point out where your problem might lie, and how it's not representative of the vehicle.

No mods, premium gas, outside temps in the low 70's, round trip run from NJ to Boston with local city driving in Boston (not much), 25.7 MPG with A/C on the trip back. I do inflate the tires 2 psi over spec of 32 psi.

Driving around Dallas (50/50 hwy/city) I been getting 24-25mpg.
On a recent road trip (736 miles) of mostly highway and few small towns that you have to slow down to 30mph, I averaged 27.3mpg
This is with a FWD 2010 model.

If you are getting knocking, you are losing power and gas mileage will suffer as well. You have a problem and need to take your car to the dealer. Have you tried changing your brand of gas.

Auto always has a/c on. You can toggle off/on by pushing the a/c button but auto also helps keep the windows from fogging.
