Automatic Transmission Fluid Fill Point

Hey guys, I have read the RR journals on transmission fluid change and also searched regarding filling point.

Anyway, my neighbor does his own maintainence work, and he says that you can add transmission fluid into the dipstick hole that measures transmission fluid level. I showed him the "ATF" bolt and told him that's where my forum members said we should add fluid but he said it isn't necessary. Thoughts?

He's right, you should add the fluid thru the dipstick hole. Which bolt are you talking about? The one that you drain the ATF from??? The only other way I know to add fluid is dropping the pan.

I just changed my Z1 fluid at 1000 miles to Royal Purple Max ATF+ Since its a new tranny, I decided to take a chance and use the T-Tec Machine and flush the fluid. It took about 8.5 quarts of ATF but I put in 9qts. I know a very reliable tech at a transmission shop that told me to overfill the tranny with 1/2 to 1 quart to avoid air pockets and tranny would shift like butter. So far not a problem.

First of all is this for a 3G or 4G TL? You can add it though the filler bolt or the dipstick hole. Many just prefer to use the dipstick hole as it's easier to get to.

I was referring to the main filler 17mm bolt on top of the transmission that is labeled "ATF," not the drain 10mm bolt on the bottom of the transmission.

To the mod; I guess it was general question. My neighbor does not have a TL.

Thanks for the replies, I'm glad he's right. That filler bolt stuck on there real good.

I have been told by multiple factory instructors to not overfilled Trans fluid. Then again I have been told only to used Honda Trans fluids. Pretty sure if you overfilled Trans fluid, it will shift harder but if you have 240 K on your Trans, keep on doing what you are doing because I have replaced multiple Trans on mine.
