Any 4g TL SH AWD’s that don’t have the Prop Shaft Bearing issue?

Hi everyone,
I’m new to this site. Thank you to the community as I’ve learned a lot about these cars from this site.

I have a ‘12 TL SH AWD (68k miles) that I just purchased. Unfortunately, it might be out of warranty and I’m pretty sure I have the prop shaft bearing issue.

My question is if there is anyone with an AWD (pre 2013) that hasn’t had this problem? If so, what year and how many miles are on your car?

The reason I ask is that the prop shaft is over $1k. If there are people that have not had this problem, I may gamble and buy a shaft off of a salvaged car as I can get them here between $150.00 - $200.00. If there are shafts out there that don’t have that problem, I think it might be worth that gamble.

Thanks in in advance and look forward to finding out what other people are experiencing.

I got my 12 SH-AWD at 118km, now 145km.

*KNOCK ON WOOD* I have no issues, and when I had the car at the dealer for the airbag warranty I had the service adviser check the history and didn't see any work being done regarding that.

If it were me, and I wanted to gamble that $200.00, or $150.00, I'd try to get it off a car with fewer miles and the newer part number. Somebody, somewhere (on this site), posted that number...

But, to the best of my knowledge, even the newer propshafts have failed, as well. Are you in the 4G TL Facebook group?

Good luck, and let us know what you do!

Powertrain warranty is 6 years or 70k miles. You're not quite there yet. If you haven't notified the dealer yet, I would do so asap to go on record. That way if you're over the warranty by a few hundred miles or months, you can say you already brought it to their attention prior to the warranty expiring. My shaft makes a whirling noise when it's really hot outside, but the tech barely heard it and said he believes all TL's do that. That doesn't mean it isn't an issue! I haven't taken further action, but I went on record prior to my warranty expiring a couple thousand miles ago (I have a 2011).

Thank you for the responses

Thank you everyone for responding. Acura client relations responded that all warranties begin on the “in service date” and according to my VIN, was in March of 2011. Basically what they are saying is that the 6 years would have expired in March of 2017. Unfortunately I don’t have much of a leg to stand on. They did encourage me to bring it to a local dealership to discuss “corrective action and pricing details.”

I did contact a junkyard and they can locate a few but can’t guarantee the OEM part number. They have a system that can tell which drive shafts work with which year AWD TL’s but weren’t really helpful in guaranteeing the part number was the updated - 40100-tk5-a03.

It it is encouraging that at least one person has not experienced the problem. I’m still undecided and will update with my decision and the result of that decision.

Thank you all for responding and the input.

I hate to even say this for fear of jinxing myself, but my '10 with about 50K miles has not given any evidence so far of the bearing failing. (Knocks head on wooden wall).

The updated part number is 40100-TK5-A03 (it replaced A02).

I believe some '12's have this and all 13's/14's have it. I also believe it is much better but not perfect as to the whine issue. This is from memory, I haven't re-researched - trying to help by providing the better part number.

This is the latest part number 40100-TK5-A03. I had my propeller shaft replaced on my 2012 TL a month ago with 40100-TK5-A03. All nice a quiet now....
More info on propeller shaft failure you can find here: https://acurazine.com/forums/4g-tl-p...-shaft-956601/

2012 TL SH AWD

I purchased mine at 89K kms ish, currently at around 158K kms.

Is this the same issue you're asking about?

I started getting a ticking noise from the engine around 145K kms and was able to get extended warranty work at around 153K kms for a camshaft issue. I had the rear camshaft, intake rocker, exhaust rocker, rear cam plug and front cam seal repaired under extended warranty only a few months ago.

Noise wise it was just a ticking noise while accelerating at low RPMs. No other noise at any other points in the drive.

EDIT: No, this isn't a propeller shaft issue. A different issue, my mistake.
