Another BWP 2012 TL SH-Tech with Aero Kit (PICS)

Hey guys,

As some of you know I recently purchased a 2012 TL SH/Tech (6MT) that I am still waiting to pick up.

I was unsure about the full OEM lip kit as discussed in previous posts so I asked my dealer to bring in the full kit so I can see it in person prior to installation.

Of course the kit arrived (was backordered) when the sales manager was not in and the full kit was installed. The dealer did of course offer to remove it if I wasn't happy with it.

So, I stopped by there today to have a look at the kit. The dealer also tinted the windows - 35% around.

I was completely blown away when I saw the car in person. I LOVE the kit and am very happy with it. I know there were some negative reactions to the rear portion of the kit (Stew4HD's post) however the kit just seems to look so much better in person.

Anyway, for what it's worth, I took a few pics. Don't mind the quality, they were taken with my Blackberry.

Sweet.. you stole my car! DAMMIT!

I don't hate the rear piece but it just looks unfinished. The look from the side is great!

Congrats!

munkeepoo: Thanks! I can't wait until I get to pick it up and enjoy it.

Stew: I get what you are saying but I'm not sure how Acura could've done it any better considering the position of the plate. I'm quite happy with how it looks in person. Now go give your rear bumper a hug!

Love it, but that rear kit looks funny from the dead on back perspective.

Don't you have a three color car now ?

White different for the metal sheet, plastic bumper, and different white for the aero ki. Under artificial light , it should be worse

Nice response!

The fact that the pictures were taken on an overcast day highlights any slight shade difference there may be between the sheetmetal and plastic. White is obviously worse for this being noticeable vs. darker colours.

In person I don't see any obvious mistmatch - i.e. nobody would notice. I've seen many white cars that are much worse.

And yes, I'm sure it would be worse/more noticeable under artificial light. Good thing I'm not planning to drive the car indoors.

But thanks for the constructive comments.

What "aftermarket weight" are you speaking of? There are no aftermarket parts on the car. I have no idea how much the OEM aero kit weighs, nor do I care, however I'm quite certain that the weight difference is negligible at best.

Thanks for the warm welcome though!

Don't take it personal, except if you are responsible and working at acura paint department. But I have always avoid acura light color car for this point. (I had a silver light one, so i know what i m talking about) I think Acura is one of the worst entry luxury car manufacturer for matching plastic and metal color. And you don't need to drive indoor to be in artificial light, just go out at night. IMO, adding another body kit, may be not made by Acura itself , add another shade of white to your car.

Nice car , no doubt of that, except the rear body kit, as many people said.

Not at all! No hard feelings, of course! The slight shade mismatch is something that I noticed on another white car in the showroom, but not outside under natural light. I know its there, but its not noticeable enough (IMO) to worry about it.

I considered black but I just didn't want to deal with the headache of a black car, as much as I like them (when they are clean).

The pre 2012 white was definitely much worse for paint mismatch. I don't think the 2012 is any worse than other manufacturer's. My opinion of course, others may be more sensitive to it than I am.

I like the look of the rear kit a lot. I know that some don't though.

Thanks!

I must agree that the previous generation, wich i had (2005 and 2007) was worse. Because when i have visited a show room recently i noticed this improvement, even though not perfect. I have a g37X now, and need to change soon (end of lease). My wife told me why not a white car ?, and i said no , due to this paint color issue. That's why , when i saw your pictures , this question came to my mind.

First of all I'm sorry for taking your first post the wrong way. I thought you were being sarcastic but now I think you were actually asking reasonable question.

I'm quite picky (ocd maybe) and I didn't notice any significant issues with the paint. The kit maY appear to look a slightly different shade, possibly due to how the light reflects off of the different angles, however overall I'd say its quite close. Probably not perfect, but close enough for me to be happy.

The dealership is bluffing you.

I don't think the dealership can remove the aero kit without having to fill in all the drilled holes and to repaint the bumpers.

A row of holes have to be drilled through the front and the rear bumpers in order to fasten the attachment pins on the back of the aero pieces.

I agree, and actually called her on that. I'm glad I like it, as the last thing that I would've wanted was for them to replace the bumpers!

I'm with Stew on my view of the Aspec Kit for the 4G-to me, it does look unfinished. They look like snap on pieces and an afterthought. Acura could have done a MUCH better job on their aftermarket applications.

In the end, YOU have to like it, and that's all that matters. White looks terrific on the updated 4G models. The new 2012's are great looking cars-enjoy your new ride!

If possible, get us some more pics on a sunnier day. I'd like to see some more up-close shots.

Thanks for all the comments!

When I get the car I'll be spending a lot of time on the paint - clay bar, sealant, wax etc. I'll be sure to get lots of photos and post them up.

The only other thing that I'm planning on doing is the paint protection film/clear bra (bumper, headlights, mirrors, front of hood/fenders).

have to agree... The car/color is beautiful, but something about the rear of that kit just doesn't look right. The front/sides are fine, but the back just reminds me of a corolla S kit...

I really wish Acura did a better job blending in the lines of the aero kit....

Looks great. I have also ordered a kit and after a month it is still not here L How long did it take for you? Also if you do not mind asking, can you tell me how much it cost to tint all four windows.

Thanks, I'm surprised that the kit is taking that long. I don't believe that mine took longer than a week or so for the dealer to get it.

They charged me $250 for the windows, not a bad deal.

Love the car!! The kit looks great. I'm still having a hard time deciding if i want to do the full kit, or do the rear mudguards instead of the rear peice.

And about the paint issues......i am very obsessed with cleaning, waxing, detailing and making sure my car looks great. Thats why i got rid of my 2010 Black TL. I picked my car up on Oct 4/2011, and it's driving me nuts that i haven't been able to wash and wax it due all this damn rain. But the point i'm bringing across, is that considering how picky i am, i can't see ANY mismatch on my paint. The bumpers, sheet metal, & mirrors all look the same to me. I noticed a slight mismatch on my Black car. And my first car was a Yellow 03 Sentra SE-R Spec-V. Talk about mismatch there!!! So far i love the white. Very happy with the car. Just can't wait to give it a bath!

Thanks for the info. Most likely I will tint my TL windows as well. I am going to e-mail my sales person and ask for a quote.

I would let dealer tint the car if it was offered for free. If not I'll go to a local tint shop and check. There are many options for window tints, most dealer will give you a cheap or average material to save cost.

Love the look of the aero kit, except for the rear pieces because they look pasted on. It's still a great color for that car, though. Congrats and enjoy it!

Aw come on guys…. I obviously was just trying to get a rise out of you all. In all seriousness I think the front looks fine, but like some of the others I just feel that the rear of just looks pasted together.

Rd_dragon, please try to be nice in your wordings.

You also don't want anyone to apply your same wordings back to you about the Power Plenum at the front of your car too.

arw321...HEY!! Congrats on your new car Sorry in the delay in getting this to you but was away on a business trip. Your car looks amazing altough you know I am not a huge fan of the rear piece, otherwise it would be on mine too - I'd be lying if I said otherwise. Nonetheless, your car looks fantastic and I am confident you will enjoy driving it day after day.

BTW...I am sure you don;t mind the little grey rubber piece along your aerokit right?! I told you it would not be anything to worry about ... I am OCD too and see that we are alot alike Let me guess, you are addicted to Timmies too? (lol)
