Add ventilated seats to TL Tech?

Does anyone know if it's possible to add the ventilated seat mechanism to the TL Tech? What about rerouting the A/C? Just curious if anyone has any home grown methods devised yet.

Ventilated seats are just fans. It's not AC.

Does the TL-tech has perforated front seats as those on the Advance with ventilation seats ?

So it's just a matter of wiring up the switches in the center console and the fans underneath and behind the front seats.

Oh I know. I was wondering if anyone has actually created their own ventilated and A/C combination, or just A/C re-routed to the seats, in addition to just the ventilated blowers.

I'm now looking into what parts I'd need to add the blowers, electrical wiring, and switch.

Exactly. I've got the part numbers figured out (almost). I can't find the center console switch and the associated wiring/fuses.

The wiring might already be there. Some cars already have it installed on all models so all they do is connect items to it depending on the package.

Not for Honda/Acura vehicles.

If a feature is not designed as a dealer installed option, there is no pre-wiring. After all, every extra wires and connectors add to the manufacturing cost of the vehicles.

Were you able to find all the parts needed to do the upgrade? I would love to hear what is needed and how difficult it would be. Very interested in doing this upgrade.

If cooled seats and blind spot monitoring are features that someone really wants - you may just have to get the advance TL.
Extra $3,000.

Looks like almost everything in the seat components are the same between a 10 tech and 12 advance. The lumbar is a different part number but the switch is the same making me think it's not a big deal or updated part.

With that said it looks like you could add the 2 blowers and switch the seat cable to make this work. As for the center console switch it looks like the connector stays the same and you would just need to update the switch.

Looks like the parts would run about 630. I confirmed with my local dealer that the back blower does indeed have a huge price difference which is baffling.

Parts list:
81218-SZN-A52 blower for seat cushion need 2
81616-SZN-A51 driver seat back blower need 1
81216-SZN-A51 passenger seat back blower need 1
81607-TK4-L20 power cord for drivers seat need 1
81206-TK4-L20 power cord for pass seat need 1
35650-TK4-A51 heated/fan switch driver need 1
35600-TK4-A51 heated/fan switch passenger need 1

I would pay $630 for this stuff to get ventilated seats. In my opinion, it's the only reason I would choose my wife's 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland over the TL on a hot day, because I love ventilated seats!

What we really need is for someone to take out one of their heated/vented seats switch and take a picture of the connector.

Thanks for the list. I am very tempted to do this upgrade.
Does anyone have a seat drawing or steps how to take it apart?

I guess the big question is if the blowers are installed in the seats will the air blow through the perforated leather or should there be some other part right underneath the perforated leather.

The seat cover hasn't changed from 09 to 12.

Most of these seats will have channels in the foam underneath the seat cover to channel the air. It is probably not enought to just add the fans underneath. Before you buy all these parts you may want to experiment with some PC low voltage fans to see if you can draw any air though there.

I found a kit that can be used on any car or SUV, for $150 ! Plus installation...

They also have heat and massage options...

http://www.seatcomfortkit.com

You can probably use the Advanced TL buttons, I think they fit.

They say they can provide installer info. Fans garanteed for 36k miles or 3 yr

OT: ok... the ventilation is very helpful during summer / hot days. but my experience, if i let it run for so long (i drive 1 hr going to work) it gives me gas, upon arriving in the office i start farting from 8:30am - 9:25am. but still a great feature.

NOX's post is a great alternative.

(Reviving this old thread because I like this idea) it looks like the foam is different unfortunately:

I am skeptical that we can just ram in the Advance switches into the Tech console. The Tech seat heater switches are position based switches whereas the Advance seat heater/fan switches are soft switches (are they not?) which likely interface to a different controller.

I think the only hope here is to install the two Advance seat fans, swap out the under pads for the Advance once with the necessary air channels and then build a custom wire harness for the fans and use a separate switch.

It looks like the differences between the ventilated and non-ventilated seats are quite extensive. I made a spreadsheet that compares the microfiche parts list between the two. Can't upload spreadsheets so I saved it as a PDF (attached). It's meant to have pages 1 and 2 side-by-side as well as pages 3 and 4 being side-by-side. By doing so, you can compare the parts lists and see extensive differences as noted by the "SAME?" column. Even the air bag is different!

I wish you could just order the full seat assembly from an Advance model - then at least you'd have all the right bits and not have to mess with the air bag at all. As near as I can tell, even the dealer can't order a full assembly.

BartmanEH, did you ever mod your seat to put in the cooling seat system?

You mean ventilation? It doesn't cool - it just circulates cabin air. Anyway, I haven't figured out how to do it yet. Sometime I'll ask my dealer if a whole seat can be ordered but I'm sure in Canada it will be too cost prohibitive to bother.
