Acuras with Manual Transmissions RIP
I get a facebook feed from Acura. They said that the restyled 2016 ILX will not be offered with a manual, just a choice of automatic or dual clutch, which in my opinion is a semi-automatic at best. Just want to say as the owner of a now extinct species, that I will miss the three pedal Acuras, and what a big mistake the company is making. They are trying to say that there will always be Hondas made with a stick, but you know what, an Acura with a stick has been part of their line up from the beginning, and part of their identity just went down the drain.

Agree completely, but not out of line with what others are doing. Ever try to find an MT BMW on a dealer's lot? Almost non-existent where I live.

It's unfortunate the M/T is quickly dying as an available option in the North American market. It's appears the low M/T take rates and CAFE regulations are the major forces behind this shift. Honda/Acura has always had one of the best manuals on the market..and now, the thrill is gone.

^^I have another theory - with one hand on the wheel and another on their cell, a lot of people today don't have a hand to shift the transmission. Hence the more sweeping move to autos.

yup, this has been at the back of my mind for a while.
no idea what car i will get next as the options for a larger, powerful, luxurious car in manual are very, VERY limited.
if anyone has some decent suggestions, please share!

I noticed several years ago most of the exotics were going with Autos of some sort, it was getting better performance numbers. Most car reviewers like road and track, car and driver and BBC Top Gear all express how the sports cars just don't feel like sports cars. They will always point out that the Z06 and Viper are still two of the few throwback manuals.
Also the Autos return better gas mileage these days and with all the CAFE standards and the price of gas, more people are turning towards Autos. Ten gas prices have dropped the past few months but it's not certain they will stay there. Most manuals seem to be in Niche markets and those are always the lower selling segments of any manufacturer.

Sadly GM seems to be the only option now for big 6MT lux sedans. Thought the BMW 5-series and 6-series Gran Coupe models still offered it but apparently they're also RIP

Try to find a 5 or 6 with an MT. When I was considering a 535, I never did find one on a lot or even encounter a dealer willing to look for one. So, while they are theoretically available, in practice they are very difficult to purchase.

Sad. The 6MT in my TSX is one of the best manual transmissions I have ever driven. I could understand eliminating something if it is not any good, but in this case we have the contrary. At the very least, give us the choice!

I remember shopping for a Lexus with a manual. On their website, they were available. Went to a dealer, and their biggest producer told me he hadn't sold one in ten years. Offered to find a used one on line and get it for me for the list price of a new one PLUS transportation costs.

Is this how Acura wants to distinguish itself from Honda? No MT, no exhaust pipes, no fun?
I still have some hope though. If the TLX continues to sell well, sales might be able to subsidize a MT. There's also a rumor... not even... a conjecture that Acura will bring back a "sport" car in the spirit of the Integra. "Sport" was Acura's usage -- not "sports" or "sporty."
AutoBlog asks the question:
Did Acura just confirm it's working on an Integra successor? - Autoblog
If true, it should be equipped with a MT.
But Automobile Magazine throws cold water on the idea:
Why a New Acura Integra/RSX Won?t Work
