Acura Tl Sh-AWD verse Infiniti M35x

Before I bought my '09 4G, I did briefly check out the M35x at my local Infiniti dealer. I really liked the exterior design (more so than the G35/37), but the interior, to me, looked dated and cramped. The performance, to me, was also below average for a car in that class....sluggish acceleration and handling. I think the upcoming M37 should be a much better car although the asking price is much higher than the TL. (The new M50 is going to be a beast--420+ hp!)

I did. It was ugly, even compared to the TL, but even worse I couldn't get the AWD model with a stickshift. The auto (5 speed I recall) was not too bad for an auto but sluggish by stick standards.

I test drove one and I thoght is was ok. I did like the interior, but it's not as fast as the TL and I just don't like the exterior styling. It's looking dated and has no character at all. "Boring"

I drove the M when shopping and found it to be a little underpowered and it seemed to 'float' down the road more than the TL -- no road feel. The styling of the new M is a LOT better than the old one. The M is about the same size as the TL, which explains why I felt the G was too small... I'd like to drive the new M37-S when it comes out (soon) -- just for fun. No regrets with the TL, though, the M is in another price range -- really can't compare them apples to apples (or afford the M).

Ductman, welcome to the Acura forum! I am glad that you are coming over from Audi to Acura.... :-)
I have not driven the M, but I have the following concerns:
1. In a couple of month's time it will be OLD as the new generation comes out;
2. The styling is much more conservative than the TL (this is totally subjective, of course);
3. The interior design is very traditional with the M whereas the TL feels much more modern and techy, which I love!
Hey, of course I would go with the Acura myself, but then this is an Acura forum.... surely you will get rather different answers on the Infiniti forum! LOL
Good luck!
P.S. take a look at the latest Acura video showing off its SH-AWD in the snow! You will like that a lot!!! :-)

Drove a 2007 G35x for 2 years, and found it to be far superior to the M. The M was roomier, but the G was sleeker, handled better, and the acceleration was in another league. The M seemed more like my grandfather's car. Still a real nice car, but not for me. Especially at the price tag. I felt the G was the more powerful ride, had much the same tech and goodies, and was $10k cheaper. The M felt pretty sluggish to me, TBH. Loved my G though, and as much as I love my TL, I miss hitting the gas in that car and beating just about anybody who pulls up to the right of me. I love my TL in different ways though. But I sure do miss hitting that gas pedal lol.

2010 TL AWD 6MT: New King

the M was out of my leagure in regards to price but i did look into the g37x quite a bit and almost pulled the trigger on it. the acceleration of the G is insane and the layout of the cabin wasnt too bad, a bit to "sqaure" for me but not bad. the biggest downfall was the interior space, or lack thereof. im 6'6", 240lbs so i needed a bigger sedan and the G was just not up to the challenge, it was much narrower too. I see the Ms quite frequently and they definitly stand out, not as much as the TL, but they are nice cars, but may I say slightly...overpriced. one could argue the same about acura and the new zdx and RL though.

What always bugged me was that I felt if they were that undesirable used, I didn't understand how they were worth that much new.
As much ribbing as we take for buying an ugly TL, the used car market for them seems to be fairly active.

Ya my sister had a 2005 G35X(280HP)(totaled) and has a 2007 G35X(306HP). The cars are crazy fast, but I find them very uncomfortable. Even my brother-in-law finds the car too small. I think they are going to improve the M's interior & exterior styling.

The M35 is a great all-around car.. Cunsomer reposrt rated them like a 95 out of 100 the last 3 years in a row.. The M is not sporty and as fun to drive as the G they are 2 tottally diff rides... And of course the "M" is slower the the G it is heavier and a 3.5 compared to the G's 3.7..
We are getting the new "M" in before march 15th so I will let you guys know how that is..
The deals on the 2010 M are great right now they are giveing like 10K off the price.. and the lease's are great

The 2011 M37x will have an estimated base price of $50K which is just insane in my opinion. The M56x is supposed to start at $60K, although you're getting a monstrous 420 hp motor. Now granted cars are getting more features and power every year, but you gotta wonder in this troubled economy how automakers have the gall to keep raising prices to such insane levels.

I feel strongly both ways

Once you move into German car price categories you lose any presumed advantage you may have had. In a world where the E/5/A6 can be had for ~$55-57k you cannot possibly expect to sell an equivalent Japanese car for $50-55k. It just won't happen. People will buy the German offering 100% of the time if and when confronted with that choice. Infiniti is out of it's friggin' mind if it feels it can move product at those prices. You would have thought they might have learned that lesson from Acura's RL experience. But I guess not.
The reason I believe the TL will [eventually] sell in big numbers is that it really does offer a mid-sized sports sedan alternative that is both fun-to-drive and comfortable/spacious for a cost savings of almost $20k (~$35-38k). You have to know your demographic and target market share. Or you're doomed in this highly competitive industry.
The cheap dollar is hurting both the Germans and the Japanese and really leaves a wide open market for an American manufacturer to move in with a killer product. Why they haven't been able to do so to date is a real disappointment. Taurus/Lucerne/MKZ aside, they have really come out with nothing to seriously challenge either the German or Japanese mid-size offerings.
Are we really this lame????
