Acura factory remote start?

The Sicilian
I was quoted about $700 for a Viper 5901 installed with the bypass. I wanted the backup battery and the tilt sensor (another $100) and SmartStart so I could use my phone which adds another $200. I'm guessing just a remote start without the alarm probably be in the $500 range. Which is in line with the factory one.
Ya we bought our car in November 2009 and they we not offering any remote start at the time. You would think they would have figured it out by then. Thanks Much.

Rowing my own
Most manual transmission cars now have a circuit that can be wired into to determine of the car is in gear prior to attempting to send power to the starter .... if you installer knows how.

Purchased my 2010 in Jan 2011 and had Zeibart install their system (Audiovox). The plus was nationwide warranty and they also installed the window tint, body and paint protection. So I can’t give you the real price, but I think it would be about $400. They have options to start with your PDA, but I did not get that.
When they first installed the RS, the car stayed running when I opened the door. They told me I had to push the remote again to manually turn off the car before driving. Thought this was strange, but went with it until I could research it on my own. During this time I tested it and I could “drive” the car away without a key nearby. BUT I could only go straight because the steering wheel was still locked. I stopped using the RS. I called them and told them this was a safety hazard. A few days later they called with a “fix”. Now it works correctly. As soon as I open the door the car shuts off.

unlock while running
I think the reason to shut off before entering may be due to the system not letting you unlock w/ fob while engine is running. I found this out when my son said he was going to be sick. I quickly pulled over, jumped out and ran around to the rear passenger side but couldn't unlock the door w/ fob (engine still running) and got to watch the whole event through the window.

just about a 2012 with Advance package and added the remote start as an accessory. Dealership had to order the kit. I brought car back, and it took them quiet a bit of time to install. Basically, it works like everyone here has said. Will not remote start unless car IS locked. It does shutoff when you open the door. The remote start serves only one purpose - to pre-cool or warm your car if needed. Sure it is a cool feature, but there are a lot of safety reasons/anti-theft built in. I am not sure I got a great deal, but I got the 2012 Crystal Black, with Ebony interior, Advance package, and added the protection package (mud flaps, cargo mat, wheel locks); door edge film guards; remote start for 41.5. It was the only TL in my area (150 square mile area) that had the colors I wanted. I also got .9 interest rate.
