Down (Saturday morning), took around 14 hours (horrible, horrible traffic in NorVa - Quantico area). Coming home (Wednesday mid-morning), under 10 hours - I made awesome time (even w/ stops!)

The car is very nice on long trips! I had my car 4 days and drove ti to Memphis from Houston. It's around 600 miles each way. Very enjoyable ride! I drove back through a huge thunderstorm so I got to see how she handled in the heavy rain

Yeah, I got stuck in some crappy rain on Saturday morning too - guess that added to the terrible traffic, or maybe that was the cause ( I suspect VA just sucks in that area all the time - no one has driven through there at any time of the day w/o at least one traffic issue )

That's one part of the country I haven't been to. I have seen most of the USA but not there. Been wanting to go to DC to see the Smithsonian, Chesapeke, etc.

Sounds like an area I don't want to be driving in.. truckers must really hate it.

DC was (surprisingly) a breeze - I've had some wasted hours on 95/495, but not this time. I love love love DC - I'm a suburbanite at heart, but the city is awesome in small doses I haven't done the "tourist" thing in awhile (museums, galleries, etc.) - since college, actually -- mainly I get a hotel in Georgetown and spend the weekend shopping & eating. The car gets garaged, and I walk everywhere - kind of a nice treat when in "real life" I have to drive EVERYWHERE to get anything done.

too much construction. too many people and too many cars. driving in No. VA ugh! and

the thing about DC...lots of stuff to do for FREE. when you see the monuments...your level of patriotism goes up and makes you proud to be an american. its weird. IF you ever come out to the DC area...come in the fall. summers are hot and humid, the winter...ugh...hate it...spring the cherry blossoms are great to see, BUT all the kiddies will be out and about b/c they are on spring break and they are running around the museums out of control.

Exactly! She's right on all points - I typically go on Memorial day weekend, or around that time, and again in Sept/October. There's always something going on - hello internet search engine. Check out the section of DC you are going to be in & I'm sure you'll find a few free events. Even the ones that are not free are typically not that expensive.

Thank you for the info. I do want to go there and really need to do it. It's kind of a bucket list thing like seeing the Grand Canyon, The Grand Tetons, Yosmite and YellowStone.

I like that patriotic feeling you mentioned. I had that when I was in NYC back in '04, standing at ground zero... OMG, what a feeling!! I had never felt such a thing at a place before that.

the monuments...you can hit them all in a day with the jefferson memorial as the last one (just like the simpsons episode...his is off the beaten path of the other major monuments). all the speeches are up on the walls of the monuments...it really makes you reflect on how our great country came to be (well notwithstanding our current economy).

yosemite and yellowstone...awesome. i've been camping in yosemite and hiking there...late spring and summer are good times...the snow melt creates awesome waterfalls!

there's also a pretty big group of TL and AZ guys running around here. though i never see ANY modded TLs.
