May 26th - Just after midnight the Rescue Squad was alerted to assist Neffsville with a vehicle with entrapment. Chief 272 arrived confirmed two entrapped in the car with a tree on top of the vehicle. Squad 27 arrived and started stabilization with the Rescue arriving a short time later. The crews from Squad 27 and Rescue 23 worked together to remove three doors after checking the stability of the tree which was on top of the car. Both extrications were completed in 18 minutes from the time of arrival of the first arriving units"

The guy who told us about it says it was one of his freinds, and that that person was doing about 100 mph at the time, and wasn't able to slow down much. Whether I, or you, believe that is anyone's call. But regardless, looks like the TL held up pretty well. I was curious as to where they towed it, as I wanted to get somemore pics of it afterwords.

That's 100mph into a tree?
Only looking at the interior makes it look like a much slower impact, then you see the outside. Also, that's a lot of airbags

 

I don't beleive 100MPH, I don't think any car would hold up that well at 100MPH, I believe 100PMH woudl literally almost slice the car in half. Not to mention the people, at 100MPH airbags or not I suspect serious injouries if not fatalities. But the TL did hold up very well, of course the real speed will tell us how well it really held up.

Well I hope that everyone was ok.

Anyway...this is the first 4th gen that is going to be in the salvage yard! Looks like the wheels are still good and one headlight.

I'll definitely take the rims. Even in a 100mph wreck, they're nicer than my stock 17s =P

 

I don't believe the TL got the worst of it. That tree is messed up.

so he lost control a SH-AWD car. i figured they would be able to brake better being an AWD. i hope everyone is ok. I also dont think that this was an 100mph impact.

 

The car can't make up for bad driving and as good as the AWD is the stock tires are lest than great in extreme handling. If the guy really was goint 100MPH then I suspect he was not too bright anyway I mean there is a wooden telephone pole there making me think this was more a rural road than a Highway.

 

AWD doesn't cause a vehicle to brake better.

This can be an issue of a false sense of confidence given by the drivetrain, and is very common with new AWD/4WD drivers in the snow. Just because your vehicle can go in it, doesn't mean it can stop in it.

 

^ never said AWD made up for wreckless driving..... power is nothing without control. i learned that the hard way. the OP said the driver couldnt stop in time. figured he knew what he was doing by speeding on such a narrow suburb road. i wouldnt have done it period but maybe the driver thought otherwise

 

Wow, that is a mess. Hope everyone is alive.

 

The road that he was on is a posted 45 mph I believe. He was showing off, and going 100 MPH before the accident. Hence why I said even I find it hard to believe he was actually still doing that at the time of impact. Anyway, the road is bit windy and the guy either forgot, or didn't know, that fact. Regardless, yes, everyone walked away from the accident with no major or long lasting injuries.

And the guy who owned that wrecked one took delivery on a new one about two weeks later. This is how we found out about all this in the first place.

I think the TL did a damn good job at keeping its passengers safe

 

^well they walked away so dam good is an understatement. it saved two lives so you can be mad at that...

I'm glad this car can take a hit and the cabin is virtually untouched!

 

Glad no one was severely injured. No doubt they were pretty damn lucky!

My friend's g.f. who totaled her IS250 AWD went and got the same car after a few weeks too. Seems like once you wreck the car and get out safe, you gain more trust for that vehicle.

And to think people complain that ACE adds too much to the weight of the vehicle. I agree that the car probably scrubbed off a lot of speed prior to the accident. I wonder if the ECU could tell you how fast it was going when the bags deployed?

 

Agreed, look at the passenger space, virtually stock shape, and that's with a tree on top of it and a completely destroyed front end. The engine stayed out of the passenger compartment as well.

I agree with most people here, he may have been going 100 on the road, but the impact was probably closer to 40s maybe 50's when he hit.

 

Look at the floor pan in the last pic. Not even a wrinkle. I'd bet the doors opened on their own, though obviously the jaws were used

 

I'm not physics major, but my guess is the tree snapping cushioned a big part of the impact, had the tree not snapped the car woudl have been in worse shape and so would the passengers.

they probably took the doors off because they couldnt figure out how to use the f*ing smart key!!! i know i still havent mastered it.....

 

Agree 100% Speed was surely bled off prior to impact. That combined with a 'bendable' tree, resulted in a survivable crash.

Here is a pic of an Audi that hit at about 100 mph. It hit the edge of the tunnel, there were no survivors.

I believe it was somewhere on 501, or close to it. East Pete is the fire company that responded. I'll ask around today at work and see if anyone remembers exactly where they said it happened. Oh and it was sometime middle of May.

Wow! I must have missed that one on the local news. Then again they wouldn't have mentioned the car model. I'm on and around East Pete all of the time. There aren't too many roads around there where you could get to 100MPH easily. That was some accident. I'm all of a sudden even happier that I bought the TL. The cabin really held it's shape.

 

A BMW 330 hit a leg of one of those big highway signs going 100mph near me. There was hardly anything recognizable of a car unless you know what car parts look like in pieces all over the road. No survivors.

This crash makes me wish we had knee airbags like Lexus. Oh well, looks pretty damn good either way.
