I came from a 2005 Acura TSX six speed to a 2012 Acura TL Automatic. I couldn't be happier with the move, most of my driving is city so rowing through short gears in the TSX became really annoying. The TL has a lot more thrust without the gear rowing and suprisingly the ride is much more buttoned down than the TSX. My only issue with the TL besides a paint defect which Acura is taking care of is that it has an annoying headliner rattle on rough roads when the sunroof is open.

Will my next car be an Acura? More than likely yes.

With the 2006...I was excited about the purchase...with the 2012...I feel a sense of "settling" for the TL.

I did an extremely extensive search too...was thinking about a SUV at one point. In fact I waited for the RDX to come out hoping that would hit the sweet spot. I looked at BMW's, had a short crush on the ZDX, drove the A5, went to dozens of car shows, etc.

I definately let my brain and logic make this last 2012 TL purchase. From most criteria...it still stacks up well....but I agree with others that the car and more importantly the brand has lost a bit of it's mojo. It does everything quite well, offers quite a bit for the buck, and remains extremely reliable...all things that my brain loved. But for some reason my heart really isn't satisfied.
If they had made the front fascia more aggressive and sexy from the start it would have made all the difference... Poor choice of stock wheels, and wheel gap all contribute...

When they did the MMC, they went backwards instead of forwards which i also think was a mistake.... The front in certain respects is an improvement, but in general they went towards generic...

In this new age of small displacement forced induction engines, Honda will continue to have a niche with their naturally aspirated efficient engines... Way more bulletproof.

I look forward to the NSX and baby NSX... Timing will hopefully be perfect for when I'll have the ability to get a weekend warrior...

I plan to put a lot of miles on my 4th gen... Its a great car.

I've owned 2006 TSX, 2006TL, 2006RL and now 2009 TL.All have been solid very good cars. In fact, still wish I kept my 2006 TSX. I'm not sure WHAT brand I could move to, if I decided to leave Acura. In the price range, what is as reliable and handles as well? Lets face it, Acura's identity is Value. A lot of us have already looked at other brands, but we come back to Acura when the numbers get put on the paper. We get a hell of a lot of car for the money.

So unless they Really screw the 5G TL, I can't see me going any place else at this time.

I've owned 40 cars. This is my 5th Acura. Won't be my last.

I think the grass is always greener until you lie in it

We can digest what the rags say, and how good everything looks on paper, but if you ended up with the current gen TL its because you did your homework, actually drove the competition, and came back to the best bang for the buck.

Is the TL the most beautiful in its class? Nope
Fastest? Nope
Most tech? Nope

Does it have AWD? Yep
Does it come in 6MT? Yep
Does it have enough tech to compete? Yep
Is it fairly priced? Yep

If the Accord is any indication of the TL's future I'll definitely take a look, but wouldn't consider buying until the 2nd model year The competition should be fierce between a new TL, IS and G. I'll test them all!

I also had a 2005 TSX. I too wish I kind of kept it. Got 30mpg freeway on regular, nice touchscreen nav, and cheap to maintain. Sigh...

The 09-11 18" 5 spoke are pretty popular, so are the 19" HPT (now on avanced models) and the diamond cuts look amazing but are quite rare. As for wheel gap I guess you're not familiar with other premium brand offerings, have a look at this: https://acurazine.com/forums/4g-tl-2009-2014-123/out-old-new-872467/ beautiful car but its a 4x4 coupe. Unfortunately generic is what woes yuppies.

This is my third Acura, owned an 04 MT base, briefly an 07 AT S-Type and lastly my 4G. I loved them all. If Acura continues offering similar (but better) vehicles I can see myself buying another Acura in the future, particularly the 5G TL. I have to admit though, a B8 S4 is VERY tempting.
