4G detailing thread!
Hello, I wanted to know
1. What kind of detailing products work the best. I heard turtle wax liquid ice is pretty good, but dont know if I should buy it.
2. what kind of leather conditioner you guys use on the 4g tech. The leather's pretty firm especially on the tech.

The use of products is pretty subjective as is the step by step washing and detailing procedure. Venture over to the wash and wax forum here:

These guys will point you in the right direction.

For paint care...there are plenty of great options out there...not too many bad ones. I'm really liking optimum poliseal topped with optimum car wax.

I actually use Meg #21 with Polycharger and then use LEatherCPR on the leather. I know the Zaino fans are intense, but I find I get great resules tih the Megs + Polycharger and for in between treatments I use werkstat Acrylic Jett, work great, nice liquid durable shine, I am debating jsut doing this ever other month and giving up on the Megs

As reference to Megs #21 with Polycharger...
It is also easy on, easy off. Apply it, I let it sit 45 minutes to really set and dry then just used Microfiber towels to buff it out by had. Much easier than the NXT and then using my buffer...

Washing:
Zaino z-7 (one of the best on the market)
Optimum No Rinse Wash and Shine
Sealing:
Optiseal (use really little, 3 sprays should do a whole car)
Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection
Duragloss
With all these products you will need to reapply once a month if garaged, and two weeks if out-doors. You will build up your protection and insure your car looks nice.
Zaino as I said is really good, you need to take about 3 days to get it on with some great protection and shine. Day 1. Claying and polishing Day 2. 3X coats of z/2 or z/5 total w/ z-6 in between! day 3 3x coats of z/2 or z/5 w/ z/6 inbetween.
With zaino you are limited to only doing 3 coats a day.

I'll go along with the Zaino guys. When I bought my TL, the dealership even recommended Zaino products. I've used them for a year and have been very happy with their products.
By the way, I just got some Z8 "super shine" and the stuff looks amazing.

And this is all inexpensive. I use package of Microfiber towels I get at Costco for $13, Meg #21 is like $40 or so for the 64 oz and then Polycharger is on sale for $25 with 3 extra bottles. I know the Zaino people are obsessive about their products, process and ultimately their car, being seeing as I used to only keep a car a year I was not as obsessed. I am leasing this one so in 39 months it goes back to Honda so I want it to look good while I have it, but I'm not entering any car show competitions, the M #21 holds up real well I usually do the car every 3-4 months and it still beads like just applied, so I could probably go 6 months easily.

Zaino is applied by hand, it can be applied by machine but then a lot of product is wasted, and I mean A LOT! A buffer will be good if you car needs paint correction (you see swirls in sunlight, etc) because zaino will make these stand out to...

You don't have too spend 3 days applying the zaino if you don't want to. You can apply 1 or 2 coats if thats all you have time for. you can wash, clay, apply a coat or 2 in just a couple of hours . I like the fact that the zaino wipes off w/o a lot a of effort after you applied it and let it dry look at their web site to see some amazing results. bottom line its easy to use - (even by hand w/o a buffer)

Keith, with a silver-colored car like yours, you can use just about any cheapo wax and it would look good....silver will just about hide anything.
Black-colored cars like mine are a bitch to keep clean. I already have a ton of scratches all over my car from the rough winter. When the weather gets warm, I plan on using a rotary polisher to buff-out the scratches and apply like 20 coats of Zaino.

I have been using Zaino for years. It is amazing stuff! The depth of the gloss is unbelievable after only three to five layers. (assuming the car is in good condition to begin with...) I got a local body/detailing shop into it after I had a car that got some overspray from a stupid housepainter. Once you develop a routine it isn't as labor intensive as all that. At any rate it's worth it. After several layers you can maintain it well with just the Z6 detailing spray. Once you try it you'll never want to use anything else. Highly recommended, if any of you haven't tried it you absolutely have to check it out!

Absolutely Pete. I didn't get a black TL but I was close. I really don't think anything beats black on black. I have a black 2007 Jeep Wrangler and I had a black on black Audi A4. That's when a friend recommended Zaino to me. I am forever in his debt! You have a nice car there...

Steve, where did you get your accessories? I'm looking for a nice license plate frame...

Two days of rain here in LA, and now a two day break, I couldn't wait, I had to wash her. Black is a bitch! This my first black car, and it sucks. It looks great from my first detail, but if you get up close, baby spider webbing in certain areas with light scratches every f'in where in direct sunlight. It's driving me crazy. I'm gonna invest in a UDM this spring.
Hey, what happens when MF cloths start leaving tiny little micro fibers on the finish? Should I trash that MF cloth? As expensive as they are, I thought they would be more durable after two uses already?

Lee, I actually got mine at a local Parts America store. There are some very nice frames on the internet. I'd suggest Googling Acura License Plates and see what comes up. I've found some really nice ones on Ebay and Amazon.

Got my first scratch I knew it was only a matter of time. It's on the passenger door, and it's a series of four or five small abrasions. Definitely looks like a parking lot/shopping cart deal. Goddam Best Buy. Looks like I'll be shopping for these detailing products sooner than I thought
