Dropping the TL off for it's first dealer visit, the car has 30,000 and I just wanted to make sure they get everything, are there any TSB's I should know about ?

It's funny that you asked this question. I just got my 2012 TL SH-AWD Elite back from the dealership because it has been "pinging". They just fixed it with a software upgrade TSB. Apparently, this TSB just came out over the last few days. I was just doing a search on the internet to see what this TSB is really about and then found this thread instead!

Does anyone else have any more information on this TSB that is supposed to fix the pinging issue?

Can you describe the pinging? I have an 2012 Elite too... Just curious to what yours was doing....

Sure! Basically, I noticed this soft, metallic, rotatory grinding noise coming from the bottom of the car when I first started the engine and then stepped on the accelerator. The noise is so soft that if you have the radio on, you would not even notice it. As the car warmed up, then the noise would go away. I had no idea that this was called "pinging" when I first went to the dealership. Apparently, this noise was due to some octane content issue of the gas - please Google it as it's complicated and I am sure that my description will not be that detailed or correct! Initially, I was told twice that it was because I did not use premium gas - I had to correct and tell the dealer repeatedly that I always used premium only so that was not possible. Finally, they agreed to take the car in for a detailed evaluation as pinging could be pretty serious. Anyway, to cut a long story short, they were just informed about this TSB and did a software upgrade which apparently addressed the burning of the gas, hence addressing the pinging issue.

I don't know if this only affects certain 2012 TL's or all of them. I am very curious to see if anyone else has heard about this too.

It is very rare that an engine "pings" even when not under any load. But if you do have it, then it must be very bad.
