2012 TL SHAWD New for me

I just picked up a pre-owned 2012 TL. Last Friday. One owner, clean. I've been reading on the forums for things such as the 3.7L oil consumption issues, other issues.

When reading the owners manual, I noticed in maintenance section that the timing belt should be replaced at 60k? Did Acura change the overall "no maintenance" (tune up/belt and water pump) from 105k to 60k? Im alright with that I'd just like to know who to believe before the dealership tells me one thing and I find out that I spent money too soon from the knowledge of wealth that is this forum.

I remember this from my 09
1. Oil every 5-6k (synthetic is what I used and have in their now)
2. Trans fluid spill/fill at 60k
3. plugs, wires, water pump, timing belt at 105k.

Im getting conflicting answers from everyone at Acura on the rear gear oil.
One dealer said 14k then every 30. The car had a drive shaft installed at 8k....do they change out the gear oil to perform this repair? I am unsure. Is there a service manual handy that I can download?

Currently the TL has 27 k. I just picked it up and would like to perform the necessary maintenance on the car since I am in the dark on fluid intervals on the rear. The other fluids (brake and trans oil) look great. I went over this TL AWD with a fine tooth comb. Its fantastic

Black on umber tech package. Ill post pics later.

Appreciate the help on a learning curve.

60K timing belt maintenance is for consistantly driving in harsh conditions, otherwise 105K is the norm. Just pay attention to your MID and follow maintenance accordingly

As for the differential fluid, it will also depending on conditions. If you drive around in hilly areas, it will come faster.

Yep! But they are low quality in snow. I'll post a few decent ones when the weather warms up

Congratulations. I bought my 2012 TL AWD about two months ago.

I truly love it, even coming out of a BMW 750LI

It's really a drivers car, I love the speed and acceleration available at your discretion, and the quality of the seating and leather is just terrific.

The ELS audio system with DVD Audio is simply awesome. I have converted a lot of Hi Res FLAC files to DVD A, and they sound fantastic in the car!

What do you do to create a DVD-A disc? What software do you use?

I have several 5.1 concert/music DVDs. Can I somehow take the audio from one of these, convert it to DVD-A format, and "burn" that to a blank DVD? I own the 5.1 concert/music DVDs, but I'm guessing there is still some sort of DRM that won't allow one to transfer the audio to a DVD-A disc. I'd love to be wrong, though.

Thanks,

Gregg

There is a program called "DVD Audio Extractor" I got it on a 30 days trial. There are a ton of these type products available, but be careful when downloading them. Many of them also include programs that suggest that you buy their PC cleanup programs. Some also change your preferred search engine in your browser and it can be a pain to delete this.

This program allows you to convert DVD 5.1 concert and Blu Ray Audio and Video 5.1 files to many other formats. (like FLAC)

I then used another piece of software (also on free trial) to convert and burn a variety of files to DVD-Audio, including FLAC and WAV.

So, I now have my 5.1 Blu Ray Audio, DVD Video (audio traks only) and high Res Flac files on DVD Audio discs for my car.

Awesome sounding

The DVD-A's sound great. But selection is limited and making DVD-A's is tedious. Personally I like to listen to lots of different content.
I have found the best low cost solution (as in like 10 dollars low ) is to just use a USB drive.
See this thread here for excellent information.

Good question. I honestly don't know. i just use high bit rate mp3's and they sound really good to me. Certainly not as good as a good DVD-A but DVD-A has about 2% or less of the music i like so I dont mind the mp3's. Thru the usb it sounds as good as anything else on the car with the exception of a good DVD-A.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Im waiting for spring to arrive and I shall post pics indeed. Its very clean.

Now then, Question: What are the "common" problems these models see? IE I know about the propeller shaft, but what IS a propeller shaft?
I've read about torque converter issues, whats the sign that this happens and approximate mileage? None of these issues have surfaced and I'm not driving the car looking for these issues, but it's always good to be in the know.

My 2009 was VERY good to me, and all I ever did was drive the car, change the filters, oils, and the tires once. Is it about that simple with the 3.7L AWD? I've looked at the oil over the past 1500-2000 miles, and it does not burn oil. 28000 miles now. Did some of us 3.7L owners get away with a good engine? lol :-)
