This is interesting. We had the car in a few months ago for routine maintenance and the service writer was trying to talk me into a trans fluid change for about $160. I thought this was odd since other cars I have owned normally do not call for a fluid change until about 60,000, if at all. I wonder if they knew some TSB was coming down the line and that the fluid change might end up being on their dime?.

Just a quick update. Had the update performed on my 2011 and so far so good. I believe they did a 1x3 fluid change as well. The vibration is gone and shifts from first, second, and third gear seem to be smoother. I'll still keep a close eye on this as I only have about 12k miles before I hit 105k. Going back next week to order the underbody spoiler kit.

Is update for 2009-2011 supposed to be there for a while? 2012 just released.
anyway, it is good to hear update is working fine.
I finally will visit dealer tomorrow at the third time.
Can you please keep your eyes on MPG also? I believe update will change the TC lockup logic. May affect the MPG I guess, but hope not

Update:
Did the 16-030 on Saturday including tranny fluid change and software update.
after that, driving around 180 miles, local and highway. It is awesome. I am pretty happy with the result. actually my car did not have very serious symptom on judder, but happens some times.
However, it is smoother than before, I did not feel the judder so far. maybe the fluid change helps a lot. I will keep my eyes on it. and also monitor the MPG after update.
VERY HAPPY WITH THE RESULT. VERY SMOOTH.

Just received the letter today here in Orlando, FL. I'll definitely be taking it in since I've been having a myriad of finickiness from the transmission. The biggest one is the damn thing shifting too soon (which doesn't appear to be addressed by this update?), causing the car to lurch forward, nearly stall out at around 600 RPM, then proceed to bounce the RPM's until it's back up to an acceptable engine speed. This happens 100% of the time when going uphill from 1st to 2nd gear, and will intermittently happen from 2nd to 3rd. It appears to get worse when I have the car loaded up with four people and it's 100F out. Maybe there is a connection with the weather and the transmission fluid running out of the "desirable" temperature range, which probably means my fluid is already toast. I just did a 3x3 drain and refill 10,000 miles ago too.

Can anybody explain what this sentence means in service bulletin 16-030?
The software update does not have any warranty time or mileage limitations
Does this mean I'll have to pay for the software update, but not for the transmission fluid change, or is it just saying they'll be covering it regardless of whether or not you're covered by warranty?

Thanks. It also looks like my car is waayyyy outside of / below the VIN range for service bulletin 16-046. Real bummer because the fluid temperature is more likely to be too hot here in good old sunny Florida.

I received the recall notice for my 12 TL FWD yesterday. I experienced the judder about one year ago with about 35k miles. It got progressively worse until I had a transmission fluid replacement performed which stopped the judder. I am starting to feel it occasionally now with 55k miles. I plan to get the software update to see if that helps.

I got the letter for Warranty extension : Software update for Lockup clutch function for my 10 TL

I don't experience any judder between 20-45 mph, do i still take it in for a software update ?

will they change transmission oil with a software update ?

How was the MPG? Was it better than before?
If this is the real cure for judder then it will be awesome for our 4G TL

Hey man, what is 16-030, is that the software update for Lock-up clutch function ? Did they change the transmission fluid or you had to pay for it?

secondly my mpg has gone down over the last 1 month and wondering if i should go ahead and do it if it improves the transmission and mpg.

Hi,
I can not tell the MPG at this point, I have not run out of this tank. Normally, I calculated miles on each tank.
I will update at next refill.

for the judder, I really feel a lot of less than before. especially when the car is around 40 mile per hour, rpm around 1100 -1300, I guess is at 6th gear. I do not feel judder. I think it is normal AT now. and smooth.

16-030 is transmission software update and 1 time fluid change. they do it for free

I had the software update and transmission fluid replacement done this morning. Both were free. The transmission is noticeably smoother now. I have not driven it enough to know whether the judder is gone. I don't know if the smoothness results from the software update or the new fluid. The transmission felt smoother and the judder stopped when I had the transmission fluid replaced about 20K miles ago, so maybe the software update is solely to keep the fluid from overheating and maintaining its life for a longer period of time before it needs to be replaced.

I had the 16-30 software update and flush done. I think they just did a 1x1.

I had finished my 3x3 flush back in April. My 2012 has about 38k miles on it, and isn't really too jerky. Although I've owned an accord and family member had an 04 tl so I know all about the torque converter issues and the signs.

The update definitely smoothed it out, and I can certainly attribute it to the software update and not the fresh fluid considering I've had real clean stuff in the tranny since my recent 3x3.

Update Complete

I had the update and 3x fluid drain/change done a few weeks ago. I'd noticed the transmission seemed to be getting confused as to what gear it should be in and there was definitely the shudder in low speed shifts. The dealer told me about the update when I took it in. I received the formal recall notice about a week later.

So far so good. It still feels like a Honda transmission to be sure, but it is improved. The transmission has seemed quite a bit smarter since the update. I haven't really noticed the rough shudder or any other odd behavior that had been becoming more common. My car is a 2012 has about 33,000 miles on it at present.

The dealer told me to bring it back if I notice anything else and they'll look into replacing the TC.

acura extended your warranty. Take it back. Tell them the update didn't fix your issue and to see about replacing it. It should cost u nothing. If your cars symptoms match the recall description the TC should be replaced based on acura.

Just came back with the update, it says 16-033, is this the same as 16-030 or later version?

also says installed 08200-9008A FLUID ( ATF DW-1) , is that transmission oil or differential oil or are they both the same ?

The actual work took 15 mins apart from the wait time

Brought my car in two weeks ago at Acura dealer before the TC warranty extension mail came out. It stated on the RO, calibrated software, replaced 10 qts of DW1 fluid and gasket. So far it's ok and noticeable the shifting points however the car still lurch forward coming to a stop. Does anyone experienced the same, not sure if the word calibrated means update to 16-030? Still waiting a call back from my SA to see if they really updated the software or just replaced the fluid.

hello,

mine is a 2012 SH-AWD, had the TC switched out in 2015

recently saw this bulletin and headed to my Acura dealership where a friend of mine worked at

he said since i had my TC replace all i needed was the computer update, which he did for me.

what i've notice after the update was it was definitely smoother, but every time i let off the gas pedal, the RPM will hang/idle at 1800-2800rpms range for another second or two - is this the way they are "keeping the temperture" in check?

i've also notice a drop in my gas mileage as well... now i'm averaging only 350 - 380km/ tank - 92octane

anyone else notice the idle hanging at 2-3k?? or its just me

Thanks

Update:
after around 3 tanks of gas since 16-030, I do not feel the difference on mpg, I still got 500 miles for a full tank.
But the judder came back already. it did not really help.

During first tank of gas, it was really smooth after software update. but I was able to feel the same symptom from the second tank of gas.

Very sad and disappointed. I will keep driving, I do not want to take my car apart to replace the TC for now at least.

HI all,

I have yet to make an appointment at Acura to service my car after receiving the TC/ATF and Software Update letter in the mail.

A few of you have mentioned that you've noticed a difference in MPG after servicing your car but some haven't noticed a difference.
Just wondering if you have any updates as to how your cars are performing now?

It wouldn't be ideal to see a decrease in MPG - do any of you know if Acura has acknowledged this?

Thanks a lot!

Ended up getting the software update and the ATF changed yesterday. Drives well so far - smooth shifting. Quite a difference from before.

Not enough time to gauge if there is in fact a difference with MPG at this point, but will comment later if there is.
