While the styling IMO is starting to looka little dated, I still find it a very attractive car, especially the Type-S, every time I see a Type-S I still think what a good looking car that is. Even the 2G TL is still an attractive design. My fear with the 4G is that it is so radical it will be come one of those designs that will not age gracefully, being oso edgy it may be stylish now, but in 5 years it may stick out as aged more, but one never knows some of that will depend on the 5G. I would love to hear the conversation going on at Acura about the acceptance of the 4G and what direction to take the 5G in. I hope they don't over react. They need to go back an analyze what made the 3G so successful and take some of those factor into the 5G. Looking at the new Nose and Tail I am concerned they will "Camryize" the TL too much.

That's what I thought when I saw the thread title, that it was likely to have degenerated quickly. :-)

I was hoping for some pictures and a 1/2 way decent discussion, but it's mostly the same old debate about the car's looks...which is why I don't visit very often.

All I know is that after spending 20,000 miles with a 2010 TL 6-6 SH-AWD, I don't regret it for a moment. The car goes through curves at speeds that would've had my previous daily driver tail-out, and it does it safely and fully composed.

It's as if they asked me what I wanted to see in a large sedan, and then went out and built it for me.

It's great.

And still averaging 25 miles per gallon...and I do not baby this thing!

Same here. The occasional speed burst from 0-60 at red light helps lubricate the engines

25mpg is pretty good IMHO, considering the TL weighs nearly 2 tons and has 305hp and AWD.

^Same here. I'm amazed at the mileage I'm getting with this thing. As it gets more miles on it, I'm regularly registering 25.5 a tank in half highway/half urban-suburban driving.

For the performance level and AWD of this car, I'm pleasantly surprised.

It's all good. I did think the article was a little harsh. The point I was trying to make was that I thought the design took a step back but I feel that the 4G STILL looks better than 90% of the cars on the road today. If my 3G blew up today my 1st choice would be a 4G.

Yeah same here. Well like most people on this forum I caught the "Mod" bug and have been trying to shake it ever since . Still minor mods here and there but nothing major anymore.

I traded in my 2008 TL base in for a new A4 after seeing the 4G, just couldn't get past the front and back end.
Recently I traded in my 2009 Pilot for a new 2010 MDX since I can't get my wife out of the A4, just didn't like driving the Pilot.
All of that said, I had a 4G TL AWD Tech as a loaner for 2 days while having a few things taken care of on the MDX and having spent some considerable time behind the wheel compared to my initial test drive a year ago I have to say that I was impressed with the car overall.
I had to have a truck and happen to love the styling of the MDX but the 4G TL is a great car, I still don't care for the design but it's definitely a better car than my old 3G by far.
This design change might be a curse, even though it has been toned down a bit I'm not sure it fits the overall style of the car, it my look worse IMHO.
Either way the design of the 4G was a disaster for Acura, hopefully they can rebound with the 5G......

^That's an appropriate post. Clearly you have never been a fan of the design and that's ok but you don't let that blind you of other aspects of the vehicle which most do. I don't think most 4G owners except everyone to like it, I actually think we buy it because we want something different that not everybody else has and could care less, but we do not want people to loose sight of what still makes it a great car.

As a whole I think the design is great but what gets most people is the overkill of the front and rear "chrome" pieces. Toning them down might not make things any better but we'll see.

They don't bother me but I don't exactly love them. I got the car all things considered and thought if they bugged me enough, a quick mod would not be a problem. Ended up keeping it the way it is, those parts of the design are what really give it that road presence and distinction but perhaps that's part of the problem in itself.

Honestly, I don't care for what we have seen of the rear bumper change. The top part of the rear bumper changes below the taillights, which resemble the 3G, are ok but I really like the current SH exhaust tips and the aggressive cuts and lines along the bottom of the current rear bumper and also on the front. I just don't like how they are trying to "smooth" out those cuts and lines, I think it contradicts the overall theme. I would loose the rear trim piece and just use one body panel that goes the whole way down kind of like the ZDX and replace the front grille with the new one and loose the hood line by adding a body painted strip in it's place. Add different rims and if they were to change the exhaust tips, I saw modded quad round tips in the photo gallery and thought it looked sick but all this is just my take on it.

Was that really the 4G design a disaster for Acura? You made all 4G TL owners feel they just threw their hard earn money to the trashcan, including me.

I just did a side-by-side of a 2010 with the pics from B. Priddy & Co. IMHO the 2012 front looks better. Too bad if you want that look you need the entire front clip w/grille. I'm still getting the RJ A-bar.

The MMC TL will boost sales. A more conventional looking grille and this car will attract buyers that are either on the fence or dismissed it completely.

I am very picky about what I drive I have never owned a Honda product. When looking for a new car I really wanted to like and still like the looks of the newest Maxima.We drove the Max and just did not like it.
Never liked the look of the 4G TL, but went to drive one and fell in love with the drive. Always liked the look of the past TL's. So far so good and yes you do not see a lot of them which I do like and we get lots of favorable comments and stares.

I don’t believe there is going to be any mayor modification to the 2012 TL with the exception of a V8 motor.

And for the 2011 TL if you go to the Acura webpage and you compare it against a 2010 TL the only difference reflected is that the 2011 TL is 0.2" longer that the 2010 (maybe a different bumper).

Ditto, when I got the inital itch a few months back I wanted to try a Maxima, liekd the new styling, but the drive was very dull. For a muscular looking car witha 3.5 engine it did not drive liek that. Maybe the CVT numbs the acceleration, but I was not impressed with the performance or for that matter the handling.

Whats ugly to you may not be ugly to someone else. I personally got the 4G because everyone had a 3G. Everywhere you go you'll see one. From teenagers to gramps. Type S or not. I'm not saying its not a nice car, because I once too was in love with the Type S. I've parked side to side with a 3G Type S one time and we complimented each others cars and said himself my car made his look old. I asked if he was on any forums he said no, but 3G's are looking more outdated to me IMO(flamers f off). But they're still nice cars don't get me wrong

Honda has canceled plans for a V8. In any event, it would have been used in an RL replacement, not in the TL.

Well i must admit this car is ugly and embarrassing to me. What I don't like the most is the remarks I get or the stares I get. Some examples:

1. I was driving on the freeway and a car was pacing me. The driver rolled down his window and gave me the thumbs up! Not sure though could have been the middle finger.

2. I was at a stop light. Guy next to me was staring at my car and checking it out. He was breaking his neck. Maybe he thought I had a flat tire..but was not friendly enough to tell me. But my TPMS were ok.

3. I don't like it when I am in an intersection turning left and I see the other drivers staring at my ride breaking their necks....I don't want to be responsible for their necks being sore.

4. I was paying a parking attendent and while I was giving her money she said "What kind of car is this...it looks NICE! i think she just wanted my money.

5. I went to vegas last month and the Valet at Aria opened my door and said. "Man nice ride it looks fast parked" another Valet came and said you fixed this car nicely! As I was walking into the hotel I looked back and a total of 3 valets were around my car. Maybe they were saying "I don't want to park this piece of Chit"...or "this is a hideous car" I should have installed a hidden recorder...maybe next mod!


6. The classic one was The first month I bought my car I put on 35% tint. I got pulled over by a female sheriff. She was pretty hot and her bullet proof vest stood out so you know what that meant. She asked "Do you know why I pulled you over?" I replied "you wanted my number?"....Then i woke up...and replied "No officer" She said you have no plates and this car could be stolen. I said I just bought it a month ago and there are no plates. She got my license and checked my record and all was good...As she was handing me back my license she said your tints are pretty dark may want to fix it...you may get pulled over again. Then in my head I was like please don't say it please don't say it...then she said.."Nice looking car!"...well that ruined my whole day!

So you guys get the picture...This 4G TL is ugly and that is why I tinted my windows so you can't see how embarrassed I am.

I love my 08 TLS, but you guys need to be honest with yourselves, the 4G (espeically the SH) beats it in EVERY area EXCEPT exterior styling. The 4g has better electronics, interior design/stlying, more power, awd (an option) and it's pretty much the better car except the butt ugly exterior. And to be honest, I care more about interior than exterior.. you spend a lot more time inside the car then outside looking at it..

I would agree and of course styling in int he eyes of the beholder, but for me was the primary reason I moved on, never loved it like I did my Type-S, but as you say in every other aspect it was far superior! And for me if they get their styling in orde rI woudl be back in a second as I loved the handling and drive of the AWD TL!

But didn't you have 2 TL-S's in like a year's time period? So keeping the 4G for about the same time seems like you liked the 4g more.

I liked its ride more, but there was not much for me to swap out into that interested me, besides the hit I woudl have taken sooner woudl have been far worse than what I did. I never liked looking at my 4G. My Type-S and my M37s I woudl get out of the car every day at work and as I walk away turn and smile saying what a damn sweet car. Never once did that with the 4G. Did however love driving the 4G always commented about how much I loved driving it.
