If this is true i.e. the 6MT being offered in the base model as well then cheers to Acura!

Most automotive purists believe a car must be offered with a manual transmission option to be considered a ‘true’ sports car, with many of today’s so-called sports sedans failing to meet this qualification. But purists fear not, as at least one sports sedan will be receiving its credentials for 2010.
Acura has announced that’s its all-new TL sedan will be offered with a six-speed manual transmission option for the 2010 model year. The manual transmission option is squarely aimed at performance drives and will be offered in both TL models – the base front-wheel drive car and the up-level SH-AWD model.
While some manual transmissions manage to free up a few extra ponies under the hood, the manually-equipped TLs will retain their 2009 ratings – 280 horsepower for the base car and 305 for the SH-AWD model.
But the six-speed manual should aid in the TL’s overall performance. The six-speed unit actually weighs 110 pounds less than the TL’s five-speed auto – which will soldier on in 2010 – and improves weight distribution from 59/41 front/back to 58/42, according to Motor Authority. Manual transmission cars will also benefit from Acura’s Hill-Assist program and an upgraded suspension with stiffer springs and dampers. The extra cog should also help out with slightly better fuel economy.
No official word on pricing but the 2010 Acura TL should hit dealers in the second part of 2009 with a starting price in the $35,000 neighborhood.

While I was looking at a G35 last week, an Infiniti rep told me that the new G37 sedan would definately be $3K-4K more than the current car. It's got more hp and a new 7-sp. Auto, so that may be worth it for some people. The outside and inside will remain exactly the same as the current car, however.

OK, who's going to be the guniea pig and get it first?
My advice is to develop a good rapport with your local dealer because you're going to be spending lots of time there when the tranny "acts up", given the histories of Type S' and their trannies.
From Edmund's:
"Acura says this is the first time it has linked a manual gearbox with its Super Handling all-wheel-drive system...Acura said the new six-speed manual transmission prompted the development of "an entirely new clutch system."

Just another individual making false statements with no proof! Almost every member on this forum is very knowledgeable about Acura. So I don't know why someone would make-up information and think its validity won't be questioned.

Way back when the first 2G TL-S' were introduced there were issues on trannies being faulty and dealers were replacing them left and right. Although I didn't own one at that time, that generation was by far has the most tranny issues. 3G not so much, by what I read on the 3G board.

Or if that's insufficient, you can search for tranny failure on the 2-3G board.

AcidHorse, don't worry too much. I think one of the reasons why the 6MT isn't out for 2009 is that, Acura wants to make sure this time it doesn't have reliability issue like the 5AT problem in the 2G TL.

.....yes, the new 2010 6M/T is indeed.....
.....a redesigned/upgraded lighter weight (110 # reported) unit with great synchros et al...........
....but an initial test drive report (please forgive my not being able to recall the source right at this moment):
- - - - - once again will indicate an uncommunicative, ropey, (dogshit by comparison to the great transmission) CLUTCH.
IMHO, Honda engineers (fools they are not) need to do a little reverse engineering seminar featuring the BMW approach to pressure plate, driven disc, throw-out bearing, master cylinder et al ad nauseum......................
otherwise, here's wishing all you automatic transmission fans, who - - like Democrats - - appear to be in the majority, to have a nice day.
....ez....
