2009 Acura TL SH-AWD 0-60=5.5 sec.
Picked up this months Honda Tun** Mag. at the local store and it has an article Boosting the 2009 Acura TL SH-AWD at 0-60@5.5 sec.
Has anyone ever seen a 0-60 time for the 09 TL that Quick?
It seems a bit fast for me, but I may be wrong.

Any chance the 6MT will be release by summer?
So by fall I may get one at OR below invoice
I may just be willing to trade for that.
NOT willing to pony up MSRP or rediculous down payment

The 2009 Accord Coupe V6 MT does 0-60 in 5.5 seconds. IMO Honda has one of the fastest shifters and the Accord coupe weighs about 700lbs less than the SH-AWD. Something really doesnt add up here.

Well, Acura decided to make the 4G first and foremost, a luxury performance family car....they added more room, more space, more sound insulation, more of everything....I don't think they really cared about about the scale said in the end.

5.5 sounds aweful quick for an AT that's approaching 4000 pounds.
However, the torque is up quite a lot and putting that power to the rear should help; just not sure how much.

Bearcat, you're deleting our fun bantering. None of it is mean't to be taken seriously. Though our posts are mostly filled with educational and entertaining information. Work and life is stressful enough, now we can't even enjoy having some fun here.

So it's most likely quicker than the TL in the 1/4 or damm close and the TL only has a chance because of the AWD launch and low 1,2 ratios. It's so much heavier it will get pulled easily at the higher speeds. Good to see you around, hope all is well.

The 13.9s ET was by Motorweek. I think it's hard to repeat that though and I agree in most cases it's will do low 14's to mid 14's.
And man....I'm not too sure about performance numbers from Edmunds...lol..it seems like they are only capable of launching RWD cars! I mean, remember how they got 0-60mph in 6.7s or something like that in the Audi 2.0T Quattro?

Other than the estimated 5.5 0-60 time that some car Mags. have posted, has any car Mag. actually tested it and confirmed a time of 5.5 0-60. It would be nice if a magazine with crediability actually cleared this up. They all seem to range a 0-60 time from 6.5 to 5.5, that is a big diffrence. I guess thats why I like AZ it seems most of reliable info comes from this site.

Car and Driver 6.0 secs and Motor Trend 6.5 Sec
I trust these well known magazines for their 0-60 times more than most other sources. I'd like to know the launch rpm they used to get 5.5 seconds 0-60 ... probably higher than I would ever use on my personal vehicle.

Nope. You can't brake torque this car. If you do, it'll launch in 2nd gear.
Even then, I think the RPM's are locked to under 2K rpm if you brake torque.
Some have speculated that's why MT got 6.5 seconds.

0-60 is not always a good measure to determine a faster car. All AWD cars put up great 0-60 #'s. SHAWD adds maximum traction, and varies the power placement to eliminate as much drivetrain loss as possible. Altered gearing offsets the added weight, and makes for better 0-60 and 1/4 mile runs, at the expense of top end acceleration. The 335 and Accord may run similar 0-60 times as the TL, but they generally run better 1/4 mile times and higher trap speeds, so they are generally faster. Traction is the biggest component to acceleration tests. BMW's awd versions run the same #'s, if not better, but they are slower than the rwd counterparts. All tests are measured to a certain point, mph or distance, that doesn't mean to expect the same result at a further distance or higher speed.

While the AWD is an advantage to the TL, I don't think the car is actually using all of its potential in the 0-60mph run because of the AT, especially since a NA motor doesn't have a lot of torque and the TL can't be brake torqued. I'd imagine with the 6MT, the TL SH-AWD's 0-60mph would be pretty fast provided that you are willing to abuse the tranny..lol. Hopefully I won't be disappointed!

Iforyou, good points on how the TL could still have done better. Unfortunately, we know the car will never brake tourque but the new 6AT should help, upon arrival. I didn't want to get to ahead for those who already find it hard to belive, but why hold back. They had a discussion over at TOV a while back, and most agreed, when going for "hero" times, high rpm lauch or "dumping the clutch", the 6MT version could possibly pull off a 0-60 of 4.9 sec. I just hope that the complications of the SH and conservations of Acura don't limit that in any way, but worst case, it should still run faster than the AT.

^^^ I sure hope the 6MT runs faster than the AT. If it doesnt then Acura has an issue on its hands.
I really dont see the new 6AT helping a lot of the line (ie brake torquing the car). Honda's history of transmission troubles when first introducing a new line will probably have them putting on the same if not more restrictive components to stop people from brake torquing etc.
The addition/development of more gears and better gear ratio's for the car's powerband though should help.

I guess it depends on how they will gear the 6AT. The first few gears in the 5AT now are already pretty aggressive. I wonder if they will make them even closer to further improve 0-60mph time. I can see how the 1/4 mile time will improve though by having the 6AT.

What is the 6MT Accord relationship to the 4G TL?
Are you suggesting that the 4G MT TL will run similar times/speeds?
BTW - NOT sarcasm. I am sincerely asking those questions?
