Potential new 2024 MDX owner
I’ve had a 2004 and 2012 Lexus and was going to get a 2024 when they became available, that is until they dropped the V6! Then my husband, who is an Acura fan convinced me to take a look at the MDX and I have to admit I’m hooked! However with all the bells and whistles that comes with it what options actually don’t require some sort of subscription service? With my 2012 Lexus there were several options that came with the car when I first got it, but unless I paid for a subscription they were just window panes taking up space on my screen. Also, what options would you recommend that a newbie should have, by the way, this will be my retirement car 😎

Welcome to Acurazine. Which 2012 model Lexus do you currently drive? I'm not too in tuned with new vehicles, however from what I've read, there isn't a subscription service in Acura vehicles. Your best course of action is to read the 2024 model press release and read what each trim offers in terms of options. That's what I do, anyways.

I have the RX 350 and mistakenly thought I had all the bells and whistles on it. Then I learned that those bells and whistles had a subscription attached to them and when they ran out I lost Sirius, traffic information, I forgot the other services I lost that were advertised to come with the vehicle because I lost them so soon after I got the car. I also lost Destination assist which began costing me $260/year then they changed it to a monthly fee which should have been the writing on the wall because when the moved up to 5G I lost Destination Assist altogether. That one was understandable, but a heads up would have been professional. With that said, and the fact that Lexus is moving to a 4 cylinder model I’m done with them and the 2024 MDX Advance looks like it’s gonna be my new car. I was just curious as to what products are subscriptions so I don’t get caught up in that loop again.

Read up on Acuralink, those are subscriptions services, basically anything that requires a car modem. Things like phone-based status and remote start, crash detection and informing police etc.
Also you have to pay for XM like you would for any car. And if you want onboard nav map updates you buy per map after the free 3 years.
Honda has stated a strategic position that anything that has no ongoing cost to them will not incur an ongoing charge to the consumer. They are not going to be like BMW charging a subscription for heated seats or Mercedes charging a subscription to have the computer acknowledge the last 20% of pushing down the gas pedal.
Acura's keyfob remote start is subscription-free. Their Alexa system is subscription-free if you use phone data, or you can separately buy a car dataplan from AT&T. And Carplay/Android Auto are subscription free.

I purchased my 2024 MDX Advance and couldn’t be happier! I traded my 2012 Lexus RX350 in and got a great deal on it and a good deal on the MDX as well so I’m one happy camper! Have to get used to driving without a gear shift, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it. 😎
