I was thrilled to take delivery of a 2022 MDX Tech AWD on "2s-day," 2/22/22. I've made several road trips with the family and was really enjoying the vehicle...until I was rear-ended by a box truck! Low speed collision, but at this point I've been without the vehicle for over a month. Parts are on backorder - in particular the black plastic lower rear bumper cover.
I hoped to get the vehicle back and drive it until the new part came in, as it's primarily cosmetic, but there's an issue with another part and no one can identify it. The part has no part number on it. It is a bracket of sorts that sits below the tail light and holds it in place with the lift gate.
I'm attaching here one photo of the unbroken bracket from the driver's side, installed, as well as the broken part. When the body shop attempted to order a replacement based on the description, the wrong part was delivered - and Acura is saying that they need a part number to provide the part. There is no part number on this piece - the body shop says so but I also inspected the part and couldn't find anything.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! It stinks to be without your car. It stinks more when it's a brand new MDX and you had lots of plans to enjoy it with the family this summer!
Thanks in advance!!!

Is the insurance paying for a rental? If yes, then you should be very happy as many insurance companies total cars when parts are on backorder. Insurance has to pay storage fees daily at the bodyshop + they have to pay for your rental. If that exceeds a certain amount then the car is totalled and sent to auction as they would be paying quite a bit. $35 for rental and $20 for storage is $55 daily... over 1 month that's $1650, 2 is $3300, 4 is $6600.
Had a similar incident with a co-worker with a new mazda SUV. She was re-ended and the bodyshop didn't have a bumper available for at least 2 months. Bumper arrived damaged and was another 2 month wait. Insurance gave her a check to buy a new car minus a few dollars as the car had 600 or so miles on it and she wasn't happy it was taking 4 months on a new car she was still making payments on.
