2006 MDX A/C Issues-Needing Advice/Help/Opinions/Ideas

My '06 Acura MDX started having A/C issues A couple of weeks ago. It wouldn't blow the coldest it has in the past, it would blow cooler air when sitting/at a stop or parked than it would while driving. This got worse over 2 weeks to where it wouldn't blow cold and the only thing I could do to get it to do it sometimes is turn the circulation on and off and auto on and off, it was luck to get it to blow any cool doing this. Well now it doesn't blow cool or cold at all just hot hot hot air. My husband drove it to the gas station at the corner of our street (maybe .4 mile) and he said it started smoking under the hood on passenger side. It hasn't done this again throughout the day but it is blowing extremely hot air out of the floor board with the AC off. My husband has put in twice before when it would blow cool the R143A which would help for 2-3 days but that's it. My car has not overheated during any of thus. Anyone have any ideas what is wrong or where we should begin to test? Anyone have this issue before and could let me know what caused your issues and what you did to fix it? I've read alot of stuff but haven't found anything specifically on an '06 MDX or anything with resolutions to the issue. TIA 😊

Before recharging the A/C system with refrigerant (R143A), one has to do a leak test to make sure the system has no leak(s). Otherwise recharged refrigerant will completely leak out of the system in a couple days, and the no-cold A/C problem will return.

Unless you have all the proper test/repair equipment, otherwise it is best to leave the task to the pros, who will test and repair all leaky area(s), and then recharge the system.

Also this is a 4G (2022+) MDX sub-forum. You will get more help if you post in the correct model year sub-forum, which is "1G (01-06) & 2G (07-13) MDX Discussion".
