Engine Country of Origin
Engine Country of Origin
2025 MDX Type S here - was looking back at the window sticker last night to try and find the date of manufacture. didn't find anything, but I did notice that it lists the country of origin for the engine as Japan. Weird - I thought all of the engines were made at the Anna engine plant in Ohio. any thoughts?

A picture / screen shot of the window sticker displaying engine manufacture in Japan would help?

It's quite possible that the engine is assembled in OH, but because of the % of Japanese parts used in assembly is high enough that the country of origin has been determined or designated as Japan. Final assembly point or where manufactured does not determine country of origin.
I've worked for a few companies where some of their products were manufactured in maquiladoras in Tijuana and Juarez. Because the majority of the raw materials were sourced from the US or other countries, the country of origin was not Mexico.

2025 NHTSA report - shows MDX and TLX type s as having Japan as the source of the engine. MDX type S shows 55% US parts whereas regular MDX shows 65%. Not sure how that is calculated
https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.go...204_7_2025.pdf
2024 NHTSA report - same
2023 NHTSA repot - shows the MDX Type S engine coming from Japan but the TLX type S in the US - https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.go...e-02042025.pdf
2022 report - has it reversed. MDS type S angine from US and TLX Type S engine from Japan. https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.go...ge-4-11-24.pdf
So there must be some component that they can flex between US and Japanese production and have it tip the totality of the components trigger that Made in Japan threshold.
