Driving the new 2022 Acura MDX

Test drove this car. Absolutely beautiful. It felt slower than my 2016 MDX. Does Acura have a govenor on this to protect the transmission? Felt underwhelming. What I don't like is the flush rear end. The mildest of parking bumps from a careless driver will damage the metal rear hatch door. Also, I don't like the fact that Acura still has a timing belt that has to be changed every 7 years. Some Honda/Acura models do have timing chains. . Lastly, why do Honda Pilots have 3rd row air conditioning vents but the MDX still doesn't? The Lexus RX350 has quad zone climate control. Everything else about this vehicle is quite impressive though.

I figured the +22 MDX would feel a little slower with the same 3.5L since it 200-450 lbs heavier than 3rd Gen depending on which trim level you are coming from. The larger wheel/rim combo for the 4th Gen might also be a factor in acceleration compared to the 3rd Gen. I 100% agree about needing extra vents and extra controls for the 2nd row and 3rd row areas (Acura, please add ventilated seats to 2nd row).

How did the piano black trim look in person? I'm still not sold on that upgrade just yet.

E92Vancouver, did you try out the "Adaptive Damper" suspension ? How big is the difference between Sport+ mode vs the comfortable mode ?

Did you ever wonder why they have a floor vent setting in second row HVAC settings? Go feel underneath your second row seats and you’ll find vents aimed at the third row passengers. I’m completely disagree with you about the transmission.

Since my rear seats are down all the time and they have been used by my Grandaughter 3 times in 2 years, the quad zone does not matter at all to me but as this is a flagship vehicle, that is brand new it is crazy that it does not have everything the Pilot has and more. That said, my MDX does not have several features that the Pilot had at the same time I bought it. That said, they were similar money and I liked the MDX better overall. You have the choice to shop elsewhere I guess. One would think the Acura should first have all the latest features which then trickledown to the Honda brand, but as you know this has never been the case, probably because they sell a lot more Honda's than Acura's.

Honda was on the scene first and continues to be the soul of the the two headed monster of Honda/Acura. In total agreement with what many have said, you would think there would be more to differentiate the brands. But financially it makes sense. They all do it, Toyota, GM, Hyundai, Volkswagen, etc.

I realized this too late when I bought my GL450 used. I expect Mercedes to nickel and dime folks (even in a full-size SUV), but Acura?!!! This is why I don't think they'll be holding on to that 3-row luxury crown for long. I've been impressed by what the Telluride/Palisade have been able to bring to the table so far. Those may not be luxury cars but any owner will probably tell you it feels "Premium" when comparing against even the latest MDX.
