If someone already had a 2020 MDX, it sure would be a waste of money upgrading so soon. Maybe some people switch cars this often but I buy a car and hold onto it for 13-15 years minimum. The car I'm thinking of replacing with a 2022 MDX is a 2008 RDX I bought new.

Same here, no plans to replace my 19 MDX hybrid until the 5th Gen MDX hits the road. I'm another +10 yr/+150,000 mile owner and hand down my vehicles to family (son 06 TSX, Daughter 08 RDX). I would consider upgrading to 4th Gen MDX if they bring back the sport hybrid and/or plug-in hybrid after the MMC. I would be taking a step back in performance, handling, and mpgs if I give up my hybrid for the 4th gen MDX.

mrgold35 has it nailed. I sold an '18 hybrid to get the '20 hybrid knowing the hybrid would be taking a hiatus. Hopefully that is just a temporary pause for the hybrid and I too don't want to take a step backward in my opinion. I'll continue to watch what happens going forward with the MDX. Only interested in the '22 from afar.

My reason that the 2022 MDX is at the top of my list is because it looks great - inside and outside - and the engine is a V6. Even though it's not terribly fast, it's fast enough for me, and it should be reliable given it's the same engine tech in use for 20 years. I personally don't want a hybrid of any type as it adds complexity and could mean lower reliability. When electric cars reach price parity with ICE cars, I will seriously consider it. After the 2022 MDX, I don't plan to buy another car for 15 years minimum. Hopefully by then, electric cars will have acceptable price/quality for me. For example, for less money than a 2022 MDX Advance, I could get a Model 3. But I'm not willing to sacrifice quality and features just to have electric.
I also considered the GLC300 which is roughly the same price but is a size smaller. I really like Mercedes designs now, but I'm not sure it's the type of car one can reasonably own for 15+ years.
In any case, my dealer is selling the MDX now at MSRP. I've never bought a car for over invoice price, so I need to wait a while for inventory to catch up with demand. I can wait as long as necessary as my RDX is mechanically perfect and even still looks new, to the average bystander.

So far, Acura has made some minor updates going 1st model year to the 2nd because of issues for last two decades at least. Might be better to wait as long as possible to purchase since the 22 MDX will be an extra long model year of +18 months. Purchasing a the 22 MDX this fall or in 2022 might have less issue if you plan to keep +10 years. I always "try" to purchase after the MMC because of the updates Acura usually adds.
