You F___ing Idiots!
Oh my God, got the damn Bridgestone's off the car today and it solved just about every problem I had with the TL.
With my new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S's (thanks to those who advised me to do so in here):
1. Unbelievable increase in handling. Night and day. Truly a sports car now.
2. Great control on slippery wet surfaces.
3. Great center-line driving. Could take my hands off the wheel and still go perfectly straight if I wanted to.
4. No more rattles! All this time I thought it was bad design by Acura. Nope. Bad design by Bridgestone. Something about the tires is absorbing more road vibration as the interior of my car is now quiet. Spooky.
So......don't let those f____ing idiots at Acura Marketing do this to you too. If you've got an '04 and you're nearing the time for a rubber change, get the Pilot Sport's and be set free.
Aaaaaaah.

IMO - the best inexpensive tire is the KHUMO ............ make a little noise on the road course (if you go to driving school), but they last forever and they are cheap ........just a little pointless info!

the kumho's however pick up every frickin nail, rock, whatever. and they don' t last very long. I had a bunch of diff Kumho's on my 2001 Accord and I was changing them out after every 12K miles. IF I ever even got there. I would get a nail with a flat, or it would just puncture.. and I will have to have it plugged.. but i am telling you I changed about 15 flats with those things in about 3 years. I replaced them 5 diff times.. I drive alot. 90K in 3 years on that car...
They are cheap.. YUP

At the risk of being redundant
OK, I love my TL, and I've read the threads about the OEM tires and the alternatives. I've had my TL since Dec '03. I too have experienced flat spotting, but not the other issues written about. I've put on almost 25K miles on the original tires, and its time for replacement tires.
Unlike other owners, I'm not overly pessimistic about the original tires...my bigger problem is the door that won't stay open....but that's another story.
Options that I'm considering for new tires are:
Mich Pilot Sport A/S ------ approx. $191/tire
Pirelli Pzero nero ---------------------$131/tire
Bridgestone Potenza RE950 -------$177/tire
Reviews for each of these tires appear excellent. Other than price, I'm having trouble differentiating. Can someone break the alternatives down for me in handling, etc...??

One on the right for me
After my stock tires blew out on me at 19k i bought the bridgestone re750 and like them very much. there is a little more road noise but feel much better than the e42s did. when these wear out i am probably going to give another manf. a try solely because i want to see what else is out there, not because i have any problems with the potenzas.

I got my 17" Pilot Sport A/S's at Coscto, the cost was $212 per tire including all fees, lifetime rotation/balance, nitrogen fill, and road-hazzard insurance. You can't beat their price, it took about 2 weeks to order them through their web site. When you compare their price to Tire Rack, Coscto is a better deal.
I took the car out to a local parking lot and tried everything I could to break the rear end free, it wouldn't budge. I love this car, and I love these tires!!

I must tell you that the "noisy" factor is greatly exaggerated. Slightly more 'whirr' than the Bridgestones, but the increase in handling, stability, and bad-weather trustworthiness is immeasurable.

Road Force.......why skimp when you're spending just shy of $850 for four rubbers?

I think the Pilot Sport A/s is much quieter than the Bridgestones. Maybe I'm a fool. I love these tires! Now I just need the A-spec suspension and I think I'll be happy.

I will say that I think the Pilot A/S is worth every penny - and I will buy them again for my car when the time comes rather than risk a downgrade on another make/model tire.

I don't wear my tires to a particular depth - I use them until I no longer have complete confidence in their grip even in inclement weather.
I've had tires in the past that I got rid of with plenty of depth because the compound turned very slick when the weather got a bit cold.

yup your right the stock tires is where honda saved on the money and this is from an inside source at American Honda who works in the R& D race dept. Just change the stock tires to something better like S03's or yokohamas and you will see a big difference.....also the aem filter makes a difference too

Which Pilots?
I was talking today to a guy at a local tire store. I went to the Michellin website, entered in the info for a 2004 TL M/T and it shot back the Pilot Sport MXM4 A/S. When I talked to the local dealer he wasn't too aware of these, but said that the regular Pilot A/S is what he normally sells - and it was $20 cheaper per tire. Any thoughts on what makes these different and which one to go with? I'm replacing the Bridgestones on my car as it seems I'm putting 4-5psi of air in my left front tire every week.

Damn, I haven't been here in many months and still the EL-42 tire talk. Check my old posts and do the smartest/cheapest thing possible - assuming your garbage EL-42s are fairly new. Go to a Bridgestone dealer (factory store, not independent) and upgrade to LS-Zs. The cost ca be a few bucks a tire plus mounting, etc. The LS-Zs are some of the best tires I have ever owned. Excellent wet traction at high speeds.
