Would 215/45r17 snows fit on my stock 04 tl rims?

Some 215 /50, not all, can be mounted on 8" rims.
I have 205/50 on stock rims and so far no problems (second winter) but the sidewall is more exposed near the thread. The tire was specified for 7,5" rims max. 215/50 was not available in the model I wanted and my tire specialist garantied I would not have problems... except if I drive as I do with my summer 18" tires .
I wouldn't hesitate to go with 215. Better dig in deep snow conditions.
