A WORK in progress; Updated 12/23 ... 08 TL-S, Cr-Kiwami's installed

This is as much of a teaser for the community as it is for me. I ordered a new set of Work CR-Kiwami last week and went to get them installed yesterday (11-19-11).

I must say that the rims look great and the tires mounted on them look great... I know that these will look amazing on my car.

... but the offsets were not looking so great The rims that were ordered by RavSpec didn't clear the Brembos. When Mark at RavSpec learned of the problem, he went ahead and ordered rims that will fit perfectly. At this time, I am running spacers with my A-Specs and with my Stock Type-S winter set up. The spacers wouldn't work with the Work rims.

As of right now I am waiting for the new rims to come in. The guys at the shop (RCT Performance is located on 15th Avenue, off College Point Blvd. in College Point (Queens), NY.) were great in working with Mark and me. They said that the wheels looked great when they mounted the rears. I hope that the new setup will be on in time for Thanksgiving... but if not, then so be it.

I will post up new picks when all is said and done

What are the specs of your wheel you just got that did not clear the brembo? And what will the new specs be?

I am not one for a super amount of poke so I didn't want to go with a super aggressive offset. Mark suggested that I go with 38 offset and everything should clear. The new plan is to go with a 20 offset. I wish I knew more about wheels and offsets

Its only a teaser for mounting purposes. Just imagine my surprise when I walked around the corner and saw my waffles still on the car. I felt like I was being teased.

I believe that the rims that we are going to try next are the 18 X 9.5 +20. I hope that I can take some pics on Wednesday but it will probably be more realistic to have these mounted after Thanksgiving.

I think that the rims are super sexy too. I have been keeping an eye on these rims for a while too and when I saw the Kiwami's, I was sold.

They are going to be mounted on my 08 WDP Type-S.

I know that when I post pics up after all is said and done that other members are going to say that I need more of a drop... that I should be slammed to pull them off... but I am happy with my A-Spec suspension and will be keeping my suspension the way it is

Mark at RavSpec is sending me a 30 offset rim to do a test fit. The rim should be to my house Tuesday (11/22/11). I will post up some pics for those who are interested. Right now I think that I am stuck between the 30 (if it fits) and the 20 offset.

I'm glad that I could be the guinnea pig...

the +20 will be pretty aggressive.. If I were you, I'd try to stick with the +30.

I had 18x9.5 +22 with 225/40 tires and the rears cleared easily but the front was close to rubbing.

18x9.5 +20 is do-able.. it'll just be slightly poking

subbed, i've been interested in the new release of these wheels and was wondering about the offsets. I'm suprised +38 didn't clear the brembos, i've been told they could. thanks for being the guinea pig

No problem

I just did a test fit with the +30 and they clear the Brembos. Only problem is that I can't get the +30 until mid December. The next step is to go ahead and test fit the +20 and see how that looks and works. I'll post some pics I the test fit later.

I actually plan on re-test fitting tomorrow and lowering the car so the rim sits where it is suppose to. I didn't have a block of wood earlier

On to more test fitting... The first shot is the +30 Cr-Kiwami:

This one is with the +30 and my 15mm spacer. I know that with the spacer the setup would resemble a +15 offset but I figured that it would be closer to what the +20 offset wheel would look like.

After looking at these I feel that the +20 will poke out a bit much and I am not sure that my car could pull off such a poke.

Overall, I think the wheel looks great

i agree, with the spacers its too much poke for me. +30 looks good, from the pic it still looks like you have alittle poke, not completely flush with the fender? how do you like the concavity with 9.5 wide?

anyways wheels look great, thanks for update

I love the concavity of these wheels. It is such a different look compared to the OEM A-Specs and the TL-S Waffles. I am definately going to go with the +30 for the fronts. The question that I am debating now is to go a little staggered with the +30 up front and the +20 in the back or just stick with the +30 on all 4 corners... I still have the option of using my 15 mm spacers in the rear for a staggered look. I'm also thinking that if I go with the +30 I will be able to rotate my tires a little easier.

I am open to any and all suggestions

Go +30 first and see how you like it. You can always change it up later down the road if you get bored

All around is better imo, you get people buying them and you can rotate them if needed. If your car is in car shows, I'd get different offsets for front and rear but i'd stay with all 4 the same offsets. In for pictures of the +20. I think the +20 is the better route as it would look best.

These your wheels being ebay'd?

The +20 would stick out about an inch in the front and that is way to much of a poke for me. Those Wheels on Ebay are probably the ones that we did a test fit with. They will look absolutely amazing just as long as you don't have the Brembos. Good deal too considering they are coming with tires

That is exactly what I am going to do. I just hate the nuts that come with the 15 mm spacers. I just don't understand why Ichiba uses such soft metal with the "low pro" nuts. I have to find a better option

Some quick pictures of wheels installed. The question that I have now is to center cap or no to center cap?

I know that most of the comments made will be centered around dropping the car or slamming it in order to pull off the wheels... Down the road I might consider lowering the car a bit more but as of right now, I am happy with the ride height as it is. I plan on taking some more pictures of the set-up tomorrow.

Of course, all C & C is welcome

Damn those are hawt wheels.

Yeah you really need to lower it. The aggressive stance doesn't compliment the car well with wheelgap.

And I would go with centercaps

+1 I would have said the exact same

Id say no to center cap. I think it looks more aggressive without them. I have the CR-Kai's in gunmetal. I think they look very good without center caps. I plan on painting the center hub black in the spring time

Hey, if you guys want to throw me $1000 bucks toward some coilovers and camber kits then I will lower it next week... But beings that won't happen, the ride stays where it is at

I still think that the wheels look great and they compliment the car more so then the waffles... Just sayin

I just spent all my money on wheels... & if I do spend they money on coils then I want to do it right and get the best. I just can't imagine being any lower. The roads around here aren't to good and there are places that I drive daily where I need to be extra careful on how I drive. Going lower just isn't functional for me. I rather be able to go on a spirited drive and not worry about what the bottom of my car might hit.

Maybe down the road I will invest the money, but for now, the A-Spec suspension works

Excellent choice of wheels and nice WDP
Was hoping to be the first to put these on the TL but mines got delayed
Received them so late in the season that I'm just going to wait til spring.

Running 18x9.5 +30 is ideal for looks and performance
I ran 18x9.5 +20 Front and Rear and it looked hella-aggressive.
One just needs to be more careful with the extra poke.

I personally think the flat center-caps flow well with the rim.

Having run the Aspec suspension myself its definitely a nice ride and improvement over stock.
Use them for now and down the line you can always sell them and pay the difference for coils.

Looks great man. You don't need to slam it, just eliminate the gap. that way you don't need to be so paranoid about driving. You'll get used to it tho, after I lowered mine I was nervous but eventually it just becomes natural to you.

Wheels look sick. great pick!

I borrowed a friend of mines camera. All I know is that it is a Canon. For the last shot, I was pretty far away when I took the shot and then I cropped it.

+30 all around. There was to much poke with the 15mm spacers. My car definately couldn't pull something that aggressive off.
