Winter Tires: Good Year GT3 or Micheline AP2?

I'm looking at getting some winter tires for my TL.

P225/55R/16 on 16" Honda steel rims (silver or black)

Acura has the Michelin Pilot Alpin AP2 package with oem Honda steel rims for $1250 (Canadian) installed including taxes

A local tire dealer has the Good Year Eagle Ultra Grip GW3 package with oem Honda steel rims for $1000 (Canadian) installed including taxes

According the reviews below, the tires are very comparable.... which should I get?

I just ordered Blizzaks on aluminum rims from tirerack.com for $859 total. I have to install them myself but they come balanced and mounted, that price also includes shipping. Not sure if they can ship to Canada. Check out there winter tire package prices, hard to beat.

Thanks for the info Peter, but it doesn't look like they ship to Canada... even if they do, the deal gets killed with taxes...

Another Acura dealer in town has an aluminum wheel package for $1600CAD or $1350USD.

$859USD is an awesome price, it works out to $993CAD with today's exchange rate.

I had the ULTRA GRIP GW3 ( rated W) 235/45/17

On the ice rain this morning it was quiet good. On sludge snow, it's ok but it's sometimes difficult to take off. I think the width of our TL tires doesn't help on this point. On dry the feeling in turns is not so good as expected, a bit of lack of precision.

My last winter tires were YOKOHAMA AVS and it was not better in snow but better on dry pavement

i just had the goodyears in 10+ inches of snow in VT. the first 5-6" depth was the limiting factor due to the low chassis on the TL, not the traction afforded (which was excellent).

consumer reports rated the goodyear very high. the alpin2 was not tested this time around.

pro: -excellent snow traction (much better than the Dunlop Graspic on
my Accord, as good or better than the Blizzaks on the girlfriend's Altima)
-"w" speed rating (same as OE?)

con: -rain traction was slightly worse than expected (hydroplaning), prolly
'cause of the width of tire vs. weight of vehicle (i bet any snow
will exhibit this tendency; the Graspic did, the Blizzaks do)
-slightly noisier on concrete slab hiways (as compared to the S-03's;
less noise than i remember on the Turanza's)
- delayed "turn-in" and some initial "squirm" on cornering (to be expected
when compared to Bridgestone's S-03's). about on par w/ the
Graspic's, certainly no worse...much better than the girlfiends Blizzaks
overall: a hardy thumb's up. these saved my vacation!

honestly, any of these are really top=rated snows...it's kind of like picking the "best" Acura....w/out a test drive.
the local Goodyear "Gemini" (factory-owned) store here in NJ price-matched for me. I paid $861.00 incl mounting/balancing, 6% sales tax and a road hazard warranty. this does not incl. a $60.00 rebate i'll be getting for putting this on a Goodyear charge (90 days no intersest; then a whopping 23+%!!)

Thanks everyone for all the feedback. I'm going to have to get my wheels next week when I have some free time. Will let you know what I decide on.
