Will 2004-2005 TL Stock OEM wheels work with 2006 TL & TPMS?

Just a quick question:

Does anyone know whether 2004 or 2005 stock OEM wheels will work with a 2006 TL & TPMS? Also, are the wheels identical? I want to swap one of the wheels out because it has a gash in it and was wondering whether I could use a 2004 or 2005 OEM wheel.

Thanks,

John

It shouldn't be a problem...They should be able to swap the TPMS..Rims are same size, no difference between the 04 and 06 rims..

re:

be careful what u tell people..the 06 wheels are not identical to the 04 wheels, they may work, but the rims are not identical http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...EWA%3APIC&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/17-in...QQcmdZViewItem.. im not sure if this worked, but i tried..notice the difference in the rims..the 06 with TPMS has an area for the valve stems, the 04-05 just has a circle cut-out where the valve stem seats...Kaz

Kazwell:

I noticed you have some 2006 rims w/ tires available for purchase on the other site. Any chance you would consider around $850 shipped for them? I may even be able to pick them up. I live in eastern PA.

Thanks,

John

So if I take a wheel off a 06 and put my 04 wheel on the 06 with TPMS it will work?
Or do they need to take apart the tire to swap sensors?

They would have to swap the sensors..and relocate them on the new rims

As on '06 owner I would only put an '06 wheel on my car for TPMS. Reason being, there is an approx 4-5" "cutout" area near the valve stem on the '06 rims for TPMS. That's cause the TPMS is in the valve stem itself and weighs a lot more, so they had to take out some rim to keep the rim balanced. Now, if you go to an '04-'05 they're gonna have to try and rebalance it by adding all that weight back somewhere else... or is it going to end up balancing well at all? hmm...personally I wouldn't want to chance it cause I'm anal about stuff like that but GL if you do, just make sure they are balanced well.

For all you '04-05 vs '06 owners that's about the only way you can tell the difference between the years of cars, by looking at the tire stems for the cutout on the '06 models.

I've had a chance to take the tire off the rim. Unlike earlier TPMS systems - the TPMS transmitter is glued to rear of the cutout area and includes the valve stem. Iit is NOT attached to a belt that is wound around the tire.

gqchicago is right you had best not put on an 04/05 RIM. Unless the rim is bent, wait awhile, I'm sure something will turn up on ebay.

NO....this combination will not work. 04-05 rims will work on an 06 if you sacrifice the TPMS. Stay with the 06 rims. Better off given you have TPMS.

Nope...they work fine....but these dont have TPMS...so there would really be no need to pay extra for these rims over the 04-05 models that tend to run a slight bit cheaper, unless you intend on upgrading and adding TPMS (I think this has been done a few times before on AZ....if your interested do a quick search on it and you should find out what you need to add this) As I recall...there was somebody that was so stoked about the added TPMS...they did an upgrade on their 04 or 05 model and added them, if I recall correctly. (short term memory challenged here!)

Fact is...either will swap in either direction and "work"....its just a matter of if you need/have TPMS and if you want it to work afterwards. In other words...put 04-05 rims on your 06 car (without modifications) and you are most likely see and ERR in the MID reading or whereever the TPMS reads out at....but its not like they wont bolt up and work...its just why would you? I do believe though...that even 04-05 rims can be modified and retrofit with some TPMS sensors..I just dont know what the deal is there and think that the small upcharge that Acura gets for that new style rim is so negligible....you may as well get the right wheel for the job!

thanks for the quick reply, micheal.

i was just wondering since i was able to do a price match to ebay at my dealer on friday for some 06 A-SPEC rims. i noticed they gave me the 2006 version since the part number ended with an E.

i assumed i was fine with putting these on my 05. good to know i'm not in for any supprises!

thanks!

Oh...heck no! If they set you up with 06 models....you got a better deal...especially if you paid the same as 05 models. As I said though...the difference is small.

nice nice. yeah, i was able to run away with them for 1400 even. and you're right, i came home and did a quick ebay search and noticed that the 06 versions, ran for a couple hundred more. i lucked out i guess.

i have the TPMS's in the boxes but they're obviously of no use. i'll read up on the mod you mentioned. not a necessity, but it might be nice to add as a side project.
