Will 17" steel wheels fit on a third gen TL Type S?

I've acquired some winter tires from a friend that used to own a 3G TL-S, but he always put them on the stock rims.

Rather than go through the hassle every year (and wear on the tires), i'd rather get a set of steelies to put the tires on. Question is, will a set of 17" steel wheels clear the calipers on the Type S?

Most likely. But, the offset is key to answering this question definitively.

The acura dealership sells a 17" package for the 3G Type S: http://www.waterlooautomall.com/Acura/service?page=4165

I believe they charge $100 each for steel rims.

The "Acura" silver steel rims from the dealer are actually Honda CRV rims and look really, really fugly. There's no way around it: you need 17" alloys. I got the silver wide 5 spokes from the older 3G base TL's. Add TPMS and Michelin PA3's it came to ~2600 with tax... without the center caps... you don't want to know how much they cost.

You mean these? THat probably would look ugly on a TL... What if they were painted black.

Yep, those are the ones. I had them on for one day and then I went back to replace them. Black may help a bit, but the other issue is the rim width: 6.5". Its below the recommended width of the PA3's and squeezes them. They may be putting on a narrower tire now but then you run into load capacities, i.e. narrower tires can't support as much weight.

Ugly might be ugly but its winter ... narrower tires are better in the snow and as for load rating its only a concern if your running a lot of higher speeds on the highway if the temps are warm and your loading the car to capacity.

BTW you can have different load ratings on the same size tires so size alone doesn't dictate it.

narrower tires are better for winter. I've seen some TLs with those CR-V wheels, I don't think any of them really care how their car looks in the winter...it's winter.

Exactly, I am just looking for a (moderately) cheap fix for the winter. As long as the Wintersport M3's will fit on them without any problems, I don't really care.

The M3's are the stock tire size.

Thanks for the input everyone.

We have a company down here that will make steelies to your application...You give them the spec and they will make it to that spec. I dunno if they have something like that over where your at.

The TL in this thread looks good with 5 spoked black steelies.
