Am i wrong here, but to my understanding is that tein basics lower and raise the car to your preference. I have heard that it cost around the $750 mark for tein basics. Why would anyone pay $750 for eibach springs and koni shocks when you can just get the teins?

Or even the aspec, which is 100 less.

Im a noobie, so sorry if this is an ignorant post. I am thinking about getting some tein basics for my car.

Also, if someone could fill me in on how they work, and how easy it is to adjust. For instance, if i adjusted to a certain height and i didnt like it, how easy is it to change and adjust?

thanks ahead of time.

So you are thinking of changing your suspension for the sole purpose of adjusting ride height for looks? You are not alone but some people (myself included) feel that the main purpose of suspension is to provide good handling and driving characteristics.

If I were to change out the suspension it would be to Aspec as it has been specifically engineered for the car. Others suspension systems are generic and leave the settings to the individual. One only has to look at race teams to see how much resources they devote to properly setting up suspension. The odds of an individual with no experience getting it right would be like winning the lottery.

i kind of like the look of a lowered car...so it all depends on your preference. you obviously have more choices with the teins since you can adjust them yourself. i would probably go with the teins...i have the aspec and it lowers it a little but still a little mushy for my likings. i used to drive a e46 m3 so im a little biased

Tein Basics: height adjustable
Springs+Konis: height + damper adjustable
A-spec: none

If you want to adjust height very often, then get coilovers - tein, megan, H&R, NEX, etc.

So springs and konis you can adjust height? I don't want to adjust very often, I just want to be able to set it at a height that I like.

yeah, konis are height adjustable, but it's not as easy as coilovers.

Konis: remove wheels, suspension and springs, move the ring on shock to desired perch, then re-install springs, suspension, and wheels.

Coilovers: remove wheels, use adjustment tool/wrench to adjust height, and re-mount wheels.

A-Spec = factory warranty, increase in resale value, specifically engineered for the vehicle (4 different part #s for TL or TL-S, Auto or 6-Speed), and not as big a drop as the minimum setting on Tein). And if you want to adjust ride height on the A-Specs you can always switch to Koni Yellows or the Neuspeed Supercups.

tein basic coilovers sounds like the simplest solution. I have 64000 miles, and I will most likely be the last owner of the vehicle. I don't have a warranty on it now, so that is out. Anyhow, if you replace it with tein coilovers, can you not put the original suspension back in when you sell?

yeah, but Konis + Coilover springs = Tein Basics + damper adjustable (a.k.a. Tein SS)

keep in mind that with Konis, you can adjust ride firmness, but Tein Basic doesn't have that feature.

You are just replacing the OEM suspension with aftermarket suspension. The OEM suspension can be re-installed if you decide to return to stock.

If you've got the scratch to do the whole nut in one shot, get coil-overs. Some (Megan? H&R? Tein SS?) are height AND ride adjustable. At least consider handling quality in your selection.

If you've got to do it a peice at a time, H&R Sports then Nuespeed Koni's FTW, IMHO.

You mean get A-Spec springs, and Koni Yellow shocks? That probably voids the warranty right?
Anybody running that setup?

I'm considering my options, I'd like to lower my TL a little, because I'd like some 19" wheels, and I don't want it to look like an SUV.

^ I think he means Aspec suspension. And when he says "switch to", he means throw out the Aspec suspension and go with the Konis.

Old thread but maybe someone can help. I didn't know it was gonna be such a pain in the ass adjusting the height of my ride on Koni SP3s/Neuspeed struts so I wanna get it right the first time.

Whats an ideal perch for a 1 finger width gap front and rear? I will be using Eibach springs. If I adjust the front and rear struts on the same perch, will I still have the "Eibach rear sag"?

^ I have my koni sports on the lowest perch with s.tech springs and I have no gap at all. With the SP3's it's 1,2,3,4,5 with the perches. The sports are 1,3,5. Think of it that way.

And the reason I got koni's was because they're are more performance-oriented than the teins. That's the answer to op's question.

So Tein Basics don't offer damper adjustment?

How do H&R Coilovers compare to Tein for handling and dampening?
