Wheel weights

Work has had me so busy i havent had a chance to do much driving since i had my wheels put on.......anyway, i have noticed a small vibration in my steering wheel the last two days while doing some spirited driving at speeds above 65mph..... yeah, i know, its probably the balancing.

Anyway, this prompted me to humor myself and go through the motions of checking everything out. While looking at my wheels, I notice a few things and have questions.

1. The weights for the wheels on the drivers side are mounted closer to the inside of the wheel, whereas the weights for the wheels on the passenger side are mounted closer to the face of the wheel.........Is this normal?

2. Every wheel has a different number of weights on them.......Again, is this normal?

I have never noticed this on previous cars when i had aftermarket wheels......

Any feedback before i have the balancing looked at on friday?...Thanks!

1. It's totally normal.

2. It's also normal. No 2 wheels/tires combo has the exact amount of weights on the same locations.

You might want to do a road force balancing to get rid of the vibrations if regular balancing doesn't.

1. Not normal if properly balanced. You should have some sticking weights as close as possible to the outer edge of rim and lip mounted weight on the inside lip. Some shops are taking shortcuts using only one weight per wheel, but that is fat from good balancing.

2. That is normal.
