Wheel spacer question

What is the largest wheel spacer that can be used that does NOT require altering the studs? Just the spacer- no studs?

And, will be make any notice (visual) difference?

Thanks

I could be wrong...but I believe it's 10mm? Once you get to 15mm you need to get the spacers with the studs.

There is no such spacer. ANY additional space creates a safety hazard, even if it's just 5mm. It's no only less threads in contact, it's the center bore lip...and that's what actually takes the major forces. Remember, the studs are only there to hold the wheel tight against the hub, it's the center bore lip that does most of the work. Studs are not meant to take sideways force, only linear force, so if you move the wheel out further than that lip you have a huge safety issue.

There are a couple of different types of Type 1 spacers. If you get Type 1, you need to get this type, with the lip...

This type is trash unless your center bore lip is super tall to accommodate.

This is the center bore lip I'm talking about. Don't look at the diameter, as shown here, look at how tall it is (how far it protrudes into the wheel).

5 mm (@3/16") is max without using longer studs, any larger you'll need either longer studs or adapters that have new studs attached to the spacer:
