Wheel Offset

Hey all,

First time poster, long time Acuraziner. I've recently acquired a set of Ron Jon legacy 7 wheels 19"x8" with an offset of 48 mm. I know these will not fit onto my 08 Type S. What's the best option for me? Can I run 20 mm spacers to make them fit over the calipers? Will I need to put extended bolts in because of the spacers? Will I rub or do any internal damage?

I've searched some and seen similar threads, but I need to acquire 5 posts since I'm a new member. I've been using this site for years, but never joined until recently.

Any and all advice is welcome!

1) test fit the wheels by adding washing on the studs until you clear the brembos. then take off wheel and washers and measure the thickness of the washers to know what space is needed to clear. do not drive with washers on!

2) email ron jon. they made a lot of specific parts for the TL and can probably tell you what you need to do.

3) if you get spacers, 15mm and thicker should have built in studs. if you need 10mm or less, put on extended studs to be safe

4) you won't have any rubbing issues unless you do something greater than a 35mm spacer hahah

5) without spacers, those wheels will look very sunken in if you ever lower your car (it's a very conservative wheel spec)

good luck

Much appreciated, the wheels should be here tomorrow so I'll try this then. I am planning on lowering the car, I have a set of tein street flex's sitting in my garage. Ron Jon said I'll need 16 mm of clearance for these wheels, so I figured I'll go with spacers, but I keep hearing bad things about them. Do you have any experience with bolt on spacers?

i had them on my stock setup for a week but felt really uncomfortable so i took them off and sold them. lot of people run spacers and they should "technically" be fine, but i don't trust them and will never use them.

my two cents (even though too late now) to most people doing wheel setups is take the time to do thorough research and get wheels that fit.

another word of caution: if you get your tires rotated and balanced at a big box store, they may not touch them once they see spacers. i've been told this personally by a few stores

That's what I've heard, I've seen some people run them for years without incident but also some horror stories. Personally I would prefer not to use them, so I may end up selling these and getting the same wheels with 32 mm offset. I need to get 5 posts before I can list them in the black market, they're discontinued wheels and are brand new. They would have fit my 2nd gen TL fine, but not my 3rd gen. How did you add the list of stuff at the bottom of your post that shows your mods?

Im pretty sure thats what I'm gonna do. Thanks for the help, I feel like such a noob even though I've been using this since I had my 2nd gen 5 yrs ago. Only had this 3rd gen for a couple months and she's already on a heavily modded schedule lol. Thanks again

BTW I just noticed that you have the flex's as well. Kinda off topic but how are they holding up? How long have you been using them and what kid of drop do you have? Trying to avoid rub once I put these + new wheels on.

I love the flex. You have to get the preloading right tho. Some complain of too soft or not right but I bet their preloading is off. I have the tein preloaded lengths if you need the measurements.

Also when you install start with dampening at 6 in front and 8 in rear. Then adjust to your preference from there

I've had them about 8 months or so and I think they're great. They look brand new still. I'm dropped about 2" I think

Yeah if you could shoot me those preload lengths that'd be great, new to coil overs. As soon as I can find a buddy with a jack they're going on. thanks for the advice. Still debating on these wheels, they're here and look fantastic but still a little hesitant about spacers.

the preload will come set but i was messing around with everything when i got it so i wanted to make sure i had the real numbers for the coilovers. these are directly from tein. set your dampener settings first at 6 front and 8 rear and then adjust from there.

front:
- 2mm of preload
- should be 198mm between the two surfaces the spring sits on

rear:
- 1mm of preload
- should be 249mm between the two surfaces the spring sits on
