i have a 96 2.5 tl not dropped.

Din, a mod on the 1st gen forum has 18x7.5 +43/44 offset with 225/40-18 and no rubbing. Don't believe anyone with a 1st gen has 8" wheels. 7.5" with +44 or greater and you should be safe.
