What if I don't get TPMS??

I was just wondering... what would happen if I don't get TPMS sensors in my new wheels? I don't think I really need them, I never check the pressures anyway. I just don't know if it will cause any problems with the car. Thanks!

You can run wheels/tires without them. You just one won't be able to monitor the air pressure in your tires, and everytime you start up the car you will get a beep about it and a light on your dash but thats about it. There are people on here running without them and have no problems at all.

Id say its fine. all you have to do is stop being lazy and get out there with a tire pressure gauge. check it every couple weeks or something.

Isn't it part of US law to have it? or does that only apply to auto makers?

Also.. curious, for anyone who may know this... if you had an issue with a tire going out and causing an accident.. *could* your insurance use the lack of TPMS as a reason to deny your claim?...

Umm, so you're saying that Civics, Corollas, and any other car like those, they all have TPMS? No... they definitely do not.

^^ you'll just have an annoying error message on the MID all the time, and it will probably make the "bing" sound and whatever

its a good thing to have.... helps prevent running flat on the highway..

The message isn't all the time .. just after a few miles it comes up once per trip with one ding then you cancel it. You end up with a tiny TPMS on the speedo or tach .. can't remember but its tiny and hardly noticable .. I don't run the TPMS in the summer setup.

In my experience if you blow a tire the TPMS isn't going to tell you ahead of time .. it will only tell you if one ids going low.

And I don't know about the rest of you but after driving 40+ years I can tell when a tire is going down by steering wheel/car response.

Yes he is right and please don't guess at things you haven't researched. Both the civic and the corolla come standard with TPMS. It is current law.

"September 1 marks the start of required 100% compliance with the US federal mandate for all new vehicles of 10,000 pounds (4,536 kg) or less gross vehicle weight to have a four-tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) that is capable of detecting 25% under-inflation and warning the driver"

As to your OP. How many years did we drive cars with out them? Of course you can mount wheels with out TPMS. It is just an extra safety feature to help drivers who don't normally check their pressure.

ROFL....that was nice cleavage my friend....

TPMS sensors are nice i guess, but hell, just take a glance at your tires....with the price of gas now a days, you should be checking your tire pressure weekly! regardless of what the little sensor says.

i change my oil regardless of what car oil life says...if it looks dirty to me, it's going out and fresh oil is going in
