Wanna slowly change from Stock Tires to new Michellins
I just blew out my front driver's side on the Turnpike two days ago, it was an awful 2 foot long, about foot deep pothole right when you get on the turnpike from the GWB. I scratched my rim pretty badly too.
Anyway, I want to start getting rid of the crappy stock tires on my 2004 TL and get the Michellins that come with the 2005 Navi.
Can you guys tell me if this is a good idea, having one michellin and three crapstones? I figure I'll put the michellin on the back and rotate the current ones to the front. And during my next blowout, which will probably happen next winter because of the damn salt these idiots use for the roads here, I will get another michellin.
Any input guys? Is this a good idea or bad idea?
And what is the exact model of the michellins that go on the 2005 Navi?
THANKS MY FELLOW TL'ERS! There are too many of us now. haha

At minimum I would do two at a time. Get two Michelins for the front and put the EL42s on the back until you can afford a complete set. The only way I would EVER get just one tire is if I am replacing one that is a match to the other three, and then only if the wear wasn't too bad on the others.
The best bet would be to take the hit and get all 4 at once, but if this isn't an option, get 2 - in the long run you will come out ahead by keeping an even wear pattern on each side.

The Michelins that come on the 2005 aren't all that great. You can do much better by getting Pilot Sport A/S (if you need all season tires), or the Pilot Sport PS2 if you want a summer tire.
Cheaper alternatives include the Toyo Proxes 4, Pirelli PZero Nero, and Falken ZEIX 512s, all of which are much cheaper than the Michelins.
I put Pilot Sport A/S tires on mine about a month ago and they are a HUGE improvement over the Turanza ELs.

The autos come with Michelin Pilot HX MXM4, which is an all-season grand touring tire, not a high performance tire. You can read a review at http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes.
They run about $200 a tire at tire rack, the Pilot Sport and Pilot A/S are actually a bit cheaper.
If you live near a Costco you'll find that their prices are the best on Micheling, Goodrich, and Bridgestone tires. I paid $212 a tire for the Pilot Sport A/S, including installation, road-hazzard insurance, tire disposal, etc.
