Vibration

Hello All,

This is my first time posting. I have a 2006 Acura TL with an automatic transmission. It has brand new tires that have been balanced and had a full alignment done last week at the dealership. When approaching 45 or 50 a slight vibration starts in the steering wheel, it gets worse at highway speeds. Any ideas on what my cause this?

try putting hub centering rings. i once had the vibration on the OEM and even aftermarket wheels right around the speeds you're saying. i got hubcentering rings that were 64.1 hub and 67 on the wheel side and the vibration went away. they ran me $20 for the set.

The balancing was not properly done. Go back to the dealership and have it rebalanced. If that does not help, get a refund on the balancing and go somewhere with a Hunter Road Force Balancer to have the tires balanced.

Welcome to AZ.

I actually had the tires balanced at Belle Tire which has a Hunter Road Force balancer.

I just had a whole long thread on this issue. Even if they have a road force balancer, they might not road force balance the car. Unless you specify that you want them RF balanced, they probably won't because it's more labor intensive and takes longer.

My tire shop tried 5 times across 3 different sets of tires before they finally got it right. I bet they have my picture posted behind the register now under a "do not serve" notice

Go back and have Belle Tire do it again, or have it explain why there is any vibration whatsoever.

You could try switching the front tires with the rears-- if the vibration changes, then it's the wheels/tires-- before going to the tire place.

Assemblies are out of balance. Simple as that.

Thanks for all of the information. What are assemblies and how does a Hunter Road Force balancer balance differently? Thanks.

Assemblies=tires/wheels

This is a start:
http://www.gsp9700.com/pub/features/how.cfm

If they aren't balanced perfectly reagrdless of what balancer is utilized, there will be a vibration, normally in the 68/75 mph range will be the worst. For some reason the Tl wheels/tires are difficult to get spot on, so the Road Force aides in the balancing and tire fitment if conditions are extreme.

On mine, the center hole where the Acura emblem resides was compromised, so we needed to use the lug adapter to balance the tires rather then a cone. No problems in 2 years.

Turbo is right on using the road force balancer but just keep in mind that there are a few tires, that no matter how many time you get them road forced balanced they will still have vibrations if they are prone or designed to have that!

Case in point, on my 10 Maxima, the crappy OEM Goodyear RS-As Nissan decided to put on the car have terrible ride quality, noise level, and vibration/shimmy issues. I have had all four tires road forced balanced on a GSP 9700 TWICE now, at two different places and vibrations still remain, especially at 60-80mph.

I've been told by both my Nissan stealer and by a Goodyear dealership that these RS-As are known to have inherent vibration issues and no matter how many times you have them balanced, even on the best of the best machines, vibrations are going to remain and that you have to accept its a inherent trait/characteristic of this particualy crappy made/designed tire, and since its a A/S high performance tire, it was designed to have a rougher nature to it, compared to something like a Michelin, Pirelli, or even Yokie product.

I'm just using this as an example that their are some tires on the market that have inherent vibration problems, like my RS-As for instance and no matter what you do your not going to get rid of all the vibrations.

Smarty-Question for you. Did the GY's have a vibration issue right off the floor, or did it start after a period of time?

Welcome. I would think it's a tire balance issue as well.

Oh, right from the get go Turbo. I've gotten used to it. Only way I'm going to get rid of it is by getting new tires and I just can't justify or spend that money on a practically brand new car.

Despite the crappy ride, terribly loud noise, and vibrations, they are wearing incredibly well and no uneven wear, unlike I've dealt with on the TL.

i have put new tires had them balance it like 10 times at costco no help i gave up on it but i will have to try this road force balancing i get so embarrased when i ride in my friends Merc E350 and he has 18" rims and lowered an no probs at high speed

I have the same exact thing happening with my wheels. Factory wheels had a slight vibration at 70-75mph and my new forged wheels are doing it at exactly the same speed. I will try using our balancer to balance by the lug holes and not the center cap.

I will let you know how it works.

Still not fixed yet. I took the front wheels and re-balanced them and the vibration got about 30% worse at highway speeds. The required weight per wheel was the same as before and needed to be placed in the same exact spot on each wheel as the old weights??

Another thing that the car has been doing with the stock wheels and the forged wheels is driving around town, when turning a corner the steering wheel pulses back & forth as I get the wheel straight. I have no clue. I work for a wheel company so I have seen alot but nothing like this.

Any thoughts?
