Upgrade tires

I am wanting to upgrade tires from my oem 235/45/17 to 255/40/17 or 245/40/17 what should i do? Whats better please help!!! I eventualy want to lower it also so i dont want the tire width to affect. I dont want any rubbing. Please tell me what to do.

what's the width of the wheel? lol... considering stock width is 235, and that is thinner than 245 and 255, id still with the 235 then.
