TLs 17"... what can it fit?

For 17" wheels, the tires are so dam thin. Has anyone been able to fit any wider tires on their TLs? How wide can they go? I'd hate to have to buy new wheels when I already have 17" wheels. Why the hell did Acura go so dam thin?

I know of 2 guys that were able to mount 235/45-17 on stock TL-s rims with no rubbing. Just take note that most tire manufacturers recommend at least a 7.5" wheel to mount these tires.

there was one guy on here that put 245 on his stock wheels. i wouldnt recommend that though, because our tl-s rims are only 7 inches wide i would go with 225/45 117, no wider.

Tire Size

I have the same issue...on my 16" rim X 6.5" stock on the 2000 TL. By my calcs, the 225/55/16 is the same rolling diameter of the stock 205/60/16, but for some reason the tire guys at all the local shops tell me they recommend no wider than a 215/55/16 (which is what the tire manufacturers recommend in the spec books). However, it doesn't make sense as the revs/mile look a bit high and comparing a 225/55 to a 215/55, teh 215 looks about 1/2" shorter.

Does anyone know? Can I put the 225/55/16 on my stock 16X6.5" rim and have no rub on the inward side strut mechanisms?

If your car is a Cdn spec the wheels are 17x7 and I have 245/45/17 Firehawks on mine with no rubbing. (stock suspension).

See my pics in specs section.

One thing though, wider tires alone don't give it the aggressive BMW 7 series look. To get that you need a wheel with a lower offset so that the tires protrude a bit more outward.
