TL-S rims got jacked last night...

My rims were stolen last night. I'm PO'd, man. I guess not having locking lugs is just asking for it, though, huh? They only got 3, I guess...

Question: Does anyone think it's a bigger "target" if I replace them with the same TL-S rims or go aftermarket? Any suggestions?

I'm not going to be lowering the car, so I don't want anything that's gonna make it look like a jacked-up wagon

some really sad pics below...

regardless of what kind of wheels its on, it will always be a target. wheel locks will not prevent this happening, only will deter

Sorry to see.

you were hit while you were out?
or is that housing? apartments?

the only way to prevent it from happening again is keeping the TL indoors while it sleeps.

but with apartments, cant really help that.
best of luck to you with insurance.

Sucks to be you man, damn neighborhood is rough though. :S

Also sucks they fucked it up completely. Locks will help deter and make you less of a prey, so sometimes that can help.

Look for TL-S rims in the ads in your region. Beat up whoever.

yeah my insurance is a big help (Geico) and they're covering a rental car, body work, etc.

definitely getting locks for my next set of rims whether they are stockies or aftermarket. ANYTHING to help keep this from happening again will be nice.

you know what's kinda messed up - I thought I heard a car alarm going off in my parking lot as I was dozing off around 12am last night. My landlord said the security tapes show the guys jacking my rims around midnight.

not like I could've done anything, but the biggest bummer is there's no plates or suspect cars on the tapes, so I doubt we'll catch these guys this time...

Well, it would've been useful had they parked their car in the camera's view, but they parked around the corner and walked up to my car. I don't think a description of 4 males in hoods is going to get me very far with Chicago PD on some stolen rims.

newer tl rims are 5x120, not 5x114.3

and just an fyi, the aftermarket ones are a different color than the oem.
And I have heard from an autobody guy that there are 2-3 color versions for the oems as well

I park next to a tl-s at work, and mine are way darker (both oem)..wierd

Sorry to see this happen to you.

The 4GTL wheels will not fit. The TLX wheels will.

You might want to consider moving....

Sorry to hear.

What would have helped is installing a tilt sensor or a shok sensor, that would have scared them off.

Do I need to bump up the DIY for that thread? I think I would help so many people, and it's only like 20$.

Nope, because here it is, and I know what I'll be adding to my car.

Man that is brutal.

And wheel locks really don't help that much. I lost my locking key for mine earlier this year... After youtubing a few vids, I realized it only takes a socket, socket wrench and a hammer to get them off.. About 20 seconds each. And that goes for all locking ones. If no one reacts to an alarm going off, pretty sure they won't react to hearing a hammer pushing the socket on... And there are ways to dampen that clang too.

They may deter some amateurs, but if they want them, they'll get them.

There's better ones which are not doable like this because the outside "nut" spins. Hard to explain.

Rimlox?

Vlad_Type_S bought them after his wheels got jacked. At $400, they aren't cheap, but they have a heck of a guarantee and they do cost less than probably most comprehensive insurance deductibles. But the whole key return thing seems to be a big hassle. Here's his review:

Sorry to see and hear.

Sucks you need bodywork too. If they had gotten away with your rims cleanly, you would be in better shape ( you know what i mean.) That and they only got away with three so they screwed up your car and weren't successful on their end. What do you do with three rims..........

Yeah, big time...luckily the underneath can likely be hammered straight...and the skirt replaced.

Tilt sensor is a must.

when i saw the title of the thread, I predicted you are in chicago area....and I was right. I can recall 2 other tls waffle stolen threads here on acurazine and they were also from chicago. Im sure they are related in some way. I also saw one more thread at v6 p of an accord with tls waffles in your area and it was also stolen around the same time.

I think your thief was really amateur or your rims were too ripe to pass up for them to go get a cinder block.

Did they check the jack for prints?

that "$500 lesson in wheel locks" link is identical to my car. AND it's Illinois (probably Chicago)

I just got a call from my claims adjuster. It's $4k in damage because of the rocker panels, etc. They're fixing some scratches on the door, too, guessing they hit it with the jack or rock.

Anyways, they're hooking me up with brand new Goodyear tires and factory TL-S rims...AND wheel-locks (recommended by the girl at the body shop who deals with this stuff constantly). All in all, everyone's been very helpful.

Now I'm just wondering if they're going to get jacked again. Considering these assholes know where I live...

Definitely going to be looking into a tilt-sensor alarm

Thanks for the suggestions/comments, everyone

^^^^ I'd talk to your apartment management and see if they'll consider installing video surveillance of the lot and the approach to the lot.

You could also make it known among your fellow tenants that you got jacked.

My landlord has surveillance cameras and our parking lot is REALLY well lit - you can kind of see in the photos. The suspects approached on foot, so there wasn't much we could do as far as what kind of vehicle they were in or a licence plate #

I could see if he would install one more camera by the side-street where they parked
