Tires and Suspension?

hey guys, my TL has 22K miles on it and I'm noticing that the suspension isn't as smooth as it used to be.

My stock tires have also started to thin out.

Is there a connection in a ride becoming bumpier due to tires wearing too much?

There is some wear and tear for sure. You cannot expect everything to be new after 22K. You are also more used to the car than you were when you first drove it....

hey TL_blue, I would say that after 22k your struts are beginning to wear. How much dumpier are would you consider it to be?

There are a few guys here in the black market that are selling new struts at a discount. I think I saw in the neighborhood of $300, new struts cost $100 each at the dealership I believe. So that'll save you some money if you want to swap out everything.

I just swapped out my struts for new ones and comptech springs, and I am loving the look and feel of the car. Granted it's a little firmer than before but it's worth it.

its not a great deal bumpier, but i am starting to notice the bumps more now than before!!

I guess it is somewhat normal, but 22K isn't a lot of miles in my book. I know for a fact that I should not have to spend any money on struts or anything at this point in my driving of my TL.

My original question was regarding the tires, but I guess you guys are saying that has nothing to do with it.

I've noticed that when tires are almost worn out the ride starts to suffer. Before you start messing around with struts, get new tires and see if that improves things. It's very unlikely that struts would be worn out with only 22K miles. I've got 114K miles on my Honda DelSol, it's still got the original struts and they're just fine so your struts are probably OK too.

It's not at all uncommon for ride quality to change as tires wear. If you have the POS Bridgestones with 22K on them, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they are the source of your degraded ride quality. Run it up to Acura and have them look at it under warranty.

Tires that are nearing their end of life will definitely feel stiffer and get noisier.

If you know what they are going to say, by that I mean you know your tires are worn out and need to be replaced and that is the source of your car's problem, then there is little point because tires won't be a warranty item. However, if you have concerns that something else may be wrong with your car, it should cost nothing to have Acura take a quick look at it.

I think you're trying to say that the EL42s are bad and even worse when going bald. I pointed out the fact that the EL42s are flat spotting and vibrating when cold, and Acura swapped them out for the tire of my choice for me. So I picked up the LS-Z from bridgestone. They have been great tires.
