Tires and Brakes
Well two quick things...comment and question
First, my last set of tires were the Kumho Ecsta ASXs. Got them because at the time they were the only one out there who had a mileage warranty in our size sport tire. Have to say I have been pretty pleased. Not the quietest things out there and there are tires that handle better but at $500 installed and at 15,000 of country driving with at least another 7,500 in them, I'd say they're a tremendous deal for the money.
I now know Michelin makes an All Season in our size with a 45k warranty (WOW). At over $200 a tire that's a bit of cha-ching but if that warranty is accurate it's well worth it IMO.
Now a question on my brakes. I am at 50,000 miles and just had an inspection and brakes (front and rear) are at 8/32. I was not sure what brakes start at in "depth" and how much wear was left if they're at 8/32. Anyone have any perspective? Will I need them soon or is 8/32 still quite a bit? Have to say I am shocked given the type of driving I do that it didn't need 'em but I suppose I owe a lot to that sport-shift and downshifting on big hills.

bump...anyone have any clues? I know different states have different regs about brakes and when they need replacement..just wondering at 8/32 if I will need them next week or next year...I have no frame of reference. Any insight is appreciated. THANKS!

8/32 is 1/4", which seems like a lot to have after 50,000 miles. I'm guessing that most new pads are about 3/8" thick, which would give you quite a while yet before you need brakes, assuming that 8/32 reading is correct.
