Tires for Aspec 18x8.5?

Ok now that I ordered my Gunmetal 18x8.5 wheels I have to decide on which tires. By the way I ordered them from Acura of escondido and I'm getting them tomorrow..Super fast transaction... I recommend them..

I read a lot about using 255/40's or at least 245/40's. What are you guys with these wheels witdh using nowadays?? and what's your review?

255/40's do they really rub?? someone said they do but not sure.
245/40's still bulnerable too curbs?

What do you recommend??

i have the a-spec 18x8's. i have 245/40's with the a-spec suspension/drop and experience no rubbing. i think that a 255/35 would prob be a better bet, but a 40 sidewall would work.

I just put some 245/40 on my 18" x 8.5", they fit the wheel much better, I would have gone with the 255 width, but couldnt find the tire I wanted in that size.

I don't think there should be any rubbing issues, there are people who use 255/45 on their 17s, and since the overall diameter is the same, and they dont have rubbing, I dont think you will.

What tire brand do you have?? And how do they sit on your wheels?? With the 245's do the wheels stick out too much??

255/40's I read some rubbing issues with aspec suspension.. I found some toyo t1r 255/40 for $185 each... but still doing some research if I should get those ones or not...

Need more advice please!!! ...

Yeah, he told me that prices went up a little bit but well, I had to get them. Although one of the rims is a little damaged.. What should I do???

This is the inside lip. The back of the wheel... Should I call them and complain?.

If its the back, they i wouldnt bother man... shipping and waiting is too much of a hassle for something that you will never see once you put them on

Man, today my dealer scratched one of my new rims too during mounting/balancing"as they claim"... good thing is that I am getting a new sparkling silver rim on friday! i got them for 1250 for set of 4

That's strange, the price they have on ebay is much higher. Doesn't make sense.

Well what kind of tire are you looking for?

I needed a QUIET all season set, which would last me many many miles and not cost me $240 a tire like some of the known brands.

So I searched and came to the conclusion of liking the Sumitomo HRT+ tires which were like $102 a tire at tire rack, and $440 shipped, and I got them in like 2 days too.

Got the tires mounted and balanced, so far so good, they are 100x better than the ES100 tires in terms of noise.........deff more like the EL42s (cant hear anything) So I am glad, and they are also pretty sticky for an all season tire.

The size is 245/40/18 and they fit entirely flush with the rim lip (8.5")

I would have loved it if the tire had a slight better protection, but its already so much better than the 235 width.

nope, its clearly a scratch, paint wont come off while rubbing on tires... theres no way a tire can crack a tire if its tailered to the right specs 235/40/18
BTW i got goodyear f1 gs d3 for 208 per tire, they are super sticky and quiet!! they are also ranked No.1 as overall performance tires by Car and Driver magazine in DEC'05's issue

I see, I'm definitely thinking of going with 245/40 toyo t1r, but as it is still flush with the wheel, I was thinking of going 255... But don't wanna risk the rubbing issue...
thanks deadlock for your info..

Kim...
Just so you're aware. Unless those rims are 2004 edition gunmetals (which they don't appear to be), they're only 8".

Not like it matters...

xtin has one of the few sets of 2004 8.5" gunmetal rims I've seen in circulation. Those rims are much darker, and not as glossy.

Thanks for the tip, but I'm sure that these are the 18x8.5 wheels. It is written on the back of the wheel (I don't think acura will cheat on that).

Color is different than pic, maybe due to lighting as xtin said.

And plus there is no lip on these wheels.. Only made like this for the 2004 model in 18x8.5 gunmetal. There was no other choice back then,.. So yeah, it is 18x8.5

I was reading other threads regarding which tires for the wheels and found that some are putting 265/35's which stays much closer to the oem setup. Now I'm lost again...
Isn;t 265 toooo wide???

Sometimes reading too much, makes one confuse more...

Anyone had any problems with these and the 245's??

well i've been reading pretty much all morning on the pros and con's on the Why you should get 255/40-17 tires for your OEM rims !!! thread and here's my run down.. Most tire places will tell you that 17x8 is too small for a 255 , But they say that you should have at least a 8.5 - 9.5 width rim for proper fitment.. Everyone else that is running 255 , none of them said they should do it differently next time for a reason so im sure they are very happy with there setups.. I know even when i went with a 245/45/17 on my stock wheels the dumbass at the tirestation was saying " those are too wide , it won't fit " and i instantly was amazed at how much better the car handled.. So im pretty sure im going to go 255/40/18 if i can find a tire that i like... I like both the nitto 555's or the Eagle F1's but they don't have a 255/40/18 in either.... )

255/40/18 fit just fine. Here are mine, and I have never had rubbing issues in over two years.

I even loaded up the trunk this afternoon with 500 lbs of tile and the A-spec suspension handled it with no problem other than riding a little lower.

I love the extra pot hole insurance the 255 offer. I just have about wore out my Michelin Pilot Sports and picked up a set of Dunlop Sport Maxx take offs, on ebay, with 50 miles on them for $50 each. I saved over $800 as opposed from getting them from Tire Rack. Woo Hoo!
