Tirerack.com and the TL

Hello everyone....

First off I wanted to say hello, this is a first post of hopefully many.

I just have a quick question about tirerack.com and the TL. I noticed that, when searching for wheels for the TL, search results differ for the 2006 6MT TL and the 5AT TL....I was wondering why this is? The only thing I can think of is the Brembo Brakes that (I think) come standard with the 6MT. If this is the case, the selection that "will correctly fit your vehicle" is much more limited. And that just makes me sad.

Does anyone know if I can still buy wheels that would normally only fit the 5AT?

Thanks, Kelly

Welcome to the forums. I don't know the answer to your question (although, I imagine if you get 6MT wheels they would fit the 5AT - but I am not sure), but I moved the thread to the tires/wheel subforum.

You guessed it! Your wheel choices are very limited with a 6MT due to the Brembos. Very few wheels that fit a 5AT will fit a 6MT. Check out THIS thread for some ideas. You can also look around in the Photograph subforum. Off the top of my head, I can think of a few companies that make wheels that will fit: RonJon, Volk, Axis, and any of your custom companies (HRE, DPE, iForged, etc.).

Exactly.

The Brembos take up a lot more room inside the wheel especially near the spokes. Even the clearance between the OEM spokes and the Brembos is pretty minimal. I got some "cheapie" alloys for snow tires from TR and they fit great. I went with TR because they have never let me down. Unlike TR, plenty of other sites didn't even draw any distinction between the MT and AT. That's not very cool.
