Tire Size Question
Hey Guys! It's been quite a while since I've posted on acurazine...been too busy enjoying my TL after all the initial help I found on this forum when researching wheels and tires :-) Anyways, I have a non-aspec 06 TL automatic without a drop and I have been running 20" Dropstar DS02 20x8.5 wheels with Pirelli Pzero Nero tires size 245/30/20 for the past two summers and now they are worn and it's time for replacement.
I'm thinking about going from 245/30/20 to 255/30/20; I'm wondering if there are any issues that I should be worried about in terms of rubbing, fitment, etc. Discounttire.com says that the larger size fits but it always helps to hear from experts who have personal experience. Let me know...thanks!

Are you dropped? with 8.5 width I would say stick with 245s but you can push up to 255, and you wont have any rub issues. Thing is you running 30 series which are rubber bands I would say stick with 245s.

I am not dropped; Why would you recommend staying with 245s? From my understanding by going from 245/30/20 to 255/30/20 it makes the "rubber bands" eheh a little bit thicker...am I mistaken?

going up to 255 is gonna increase your diameter by 3/10 of an inch. increase your sidewall height by about 1/5 of an inch. Your right it will make it "little bit" thicker. But is it worth the extra money? Do you have winter wheels? (if you don't and you drive in snow/ice, you dont want wider tires, not friendly with snow/ice).
If your not dropped, I would actually use 35 series, to HELP close that wheel gap you got going on.

I am only using these wheels during the summer; so if I'm reading you right you would recommend me getting a 245/35/20 correct? I definately would like to close that wheel gap as much as I can without a drop, but I haven't seen 245/35/20 as an approved/tested size on an 06 TL. Are there people on this forum who are running 245/35/20?

Brother I would defenitley not do the 245's,,,,on big dips they rub the rear fenders,,,,235/35/20 by nitto will do the trick,,, I tried the 225/35/20, found them to be to small,, then the 245/35/20,, and it was to freakin wide,,,,,found that nitto also made a 235 hint,,hint,,, that's what comes on our cars 235/45/17,,, and plus sizing to an 8.5,, 20 inch will is a big difference,,,,if you still have the stocks on the car notice how the tire does this / \ ,,,so that on big dips it will not rub,,,even when your riding the 350 pound mother in law in the back seat,,,,the 235/35/20's will do the same........... peace.
