Tire size for 18 x 8 A-Spec?

Hey all,

Looking to get a spec wheels for my car, I found a set within my price range that are 18x8, 45mm offset according to the sellers posting.

Question is will 235/40-18 tires fit these wheels? If not, what size tires do I need to look for? I am looking to get a total price for these wheels and tires before I order anything, thats all.

Thanks!

did you try googling what the stock tire size was for these wheels? Or did you try searching for other threads about this?

Google tells me that that's the right size for those wheels. Or at least that's what they came with from dealerships

that's a good deal. They usually go for that much without tires.

Sweet. I am torn as to whether buy the rims tires now, and wait to get my ticket back to Cali for the a week or two during the summer, or wait on the wheels and tires and secure my trip out to Cali now.

What would yall do?? lol

He can do this, but the speedometer will read 1.5% too slow. When the speedo says your going exactly 60mph, you'll in actuality be going 60.9mph.

But, if 1.5% isn't a big deal to the OP, it's not a bad idea.

I was thinking about a bigger, wider tire, but I would like my speedometer to remain accurate. Then again, .9mph is not a very big discrepancy.

Sorry, but that is not correct as the OE Michelins are 25.6", not the 25.3" dimater of aftermarket 235/45-17 tires and the speedometer still registers a slow 60 mph from the factory. The 245/40-18, as with the 245/45-17 brings the speedometer to almost an exact 60mph with the .40% difference from factory specs. Stick with 245/40-18.

First, I believe the thread you're speaking of, is about 255/40-17 as a replacement size, but the OP is asking about an 18" tire. Now, although I don't agree with the 255/40-17 as a replacement, virtually any tire can be mounted on any width rim as you can read on various threads, from stretched tires to tires that are much wider than the recommended size for a specific wheel width. Having said that and before anyone makes a comment that a 255/35-18 is available at only 25" tall and also 255/40-18 at 26" tall, I don't recommend either size, but that has never stopped members from doing an install. Your choice.

Stick with a 245/40-18.

could 245-45-18 be another option to give more tire height and protect the ride quality?

As I stated, virtually any tire can be installed on the 18" wheel, as well as a 245/45-18, but the tire would be 1" larger in diameter and would look odd on the car, but to each their own. Also this size would result in a 3.9% speedometer error, not huge, but a 2+ mph diff at 60.

If ride quality is what one is looking for, get a soft 245/40-18" tire that will flex, or give when encountering an impact and there are even 93 H rated tires in 245/40 that would provide a cushy ride when compared to a 245/45-18 with a 100 XL load rating. Next time you’re at a tire shop, get some tires, stand them upright and push downward on the tread, some will give and some will not budge.

I'm also running 245/40/18's on my A Specs. Potholes aren't quite as big an issue for me, but it does provide some additional curb protection and has a slightly larger contact patch. I've been happy with mine so far.

It's in the Service Menu for the Navi. BTW that changes calibration in respect to the NAV ONLY and not for the car. The navi relies on the wheel speed sensors in order to keep you moving on the map when you don't have any GPS signals. You can change that all you want but it won't affect the speedometer.

The best tire to run for aspecs are 235/40/18 in respect to keeping within OEM specs.

However, since most of us work hard for our money and can deal with a 1 MPH error, 245/40/18 are a much better choice. They allow for a slightly wider tire to help protect the edge of the rim. When you are going 60, the speedometer will read 59MPH.

Keep in mind the OE Michelin's stand 25.6" tall while the 235/40-18 tires are only 25.2"-25.4" depending on the brand. Given this info, one would be starting with a much smaller tire than the OE Michelin.

The 245/40-18 is 25.7" and assuming the OE tires have 60mph dead on, which they don't as they are a slow 60, the 245/40-18 would be down to the 25.6" height in about 6400 miles with a 40000 mile like expentency, if this makes any sense.

But the bottom line to which we both agree is that the 245/40-18 makes more sense.

is the 1 mph really that serious? ... 245 40 18 just makes more sense for the reasons listed above ... just go with that

Sure, why not?

BTW, I have the "ebony chrome" finish on my A Specs and 245/40/18 tires. Here's how it looks:
