Tire rotation...

Does anyone have an idea of what the Acura dealerships cost for tire rotation?
I'm curious.

Thanks!

I want to say mine charges $40-50, but I don't remember exactly. The Firestone I get my alignments done at charges $40. Of course, I pay $0 as I do them myself...did it this past weekend, as a matter of fact...great opportunity to wash the inside of the wheels completely!

Thanks, Chill_Dog...
....That's what I was thinking, but to my surprise....after I read your estimate, I asked my secretary to call the dealership (as I should have initially) and they said that they will charge $15.50 to rotate the tires. Whew - that's a little better! That's freaking cheap!

I'm leaving for Pittsburgh on Wednesday morning (about a 4 hour drive) and it's the TL's first long distance trip so I wanted to have the tires rotated before I left [and since I now have 6,200 miles on the car].

Damn, damn, damn!
I wish my b/f could rotate them for me, but my dealer has basically suckered me into having to go there for everything; literally. In order for me to get the newer powertrain warranty (2006's and up), the salesman told me that I would have to have every service preformed at their facility so that they can keep track of the maintenance on the vehicle; and there by extending the powertrain warranty.

Do you have a Mr Tire near you? They have an online coupon for a free tire rotation with an alignment check (and if you need an alignment, 20% off)

Alternatively, most place will rotate for free if you get them balanced.

Speaking of rotating the tires do you rotate your non-directional tires in a diagonal pattern or just swap front to rear? The manual says you should do it diagonally but my dealer rotates front to rear unless you tell them otherwise.

$15? If I wasn't anal and wanted to wash the inside of my wheels, I'd do that. Seems like the dealer got one over on you good...hopefully it will prove to be worth it.

If you do not have directional tires, yes, cross them as the manual says. Even if it wasn't in the manual, that's how you rotate tires (non-directional)...your dealer is just being lazy.

Just curious how one would rotate tires without a lift. Also, about how long does DIY take?

Smile

I have two jacks,so I lift one side of the car and swap tires, then do the other

side. It takes maybe 20 minutes per side, since I am in no hurry.

Directional tires are designed to travel in one direction to maximize traction (and usually to minimize hydroplaning, like the Goodyear Aquatreads). The grooves, or channels between the tread blocks, will curve outwards towards the edges of the tire to channel water away from the center of the tire as the tire rolls. That means the tire should only be mounted to travel in one direction, and that direction of travel should be maintained upon rotation of the tires.
With regards to rotations without a lift- 2 jack stands are preferable to jacks on a front-rear rotation; just make sure the tires on the other side of the car are chocked if jacks are used.

A follow up....

Went for my second oil change and first tire rotation at the dealership today...only cost me $49 - and they washed my car and shined my tires; not a bad deal really.

And hopefully my TL does well on it's first real road trip....
Thanks everyone for your feedback!!
