Tire Review / Log: Nitto Motivo on XXR-527s!

Ok, so here's my input on an alternative to the Continental DWS tire. While I know there are MANY staunch advocates of the coveted DWS, in my experience, I DESTROYED a set in well under 20k (welcome to the lowered life ). With 4k on the rubber, it's time for a review.

SET-UP

XXR-527 (18x8.75 et20)
A-Spec MT Suspension
Nitto Motivo 235/40-R18
12X,XXX meticulously maintained miles
AMSOIL All Day
Poor Boy's World All Night

INITIAL IMPRESSIONS
Noise detection was on par with the DWS, but right off the bat you can immediate tell there's something VERY unique about the compound, which is why these puppies are rated for 60k (yes, 60k). Rise was smooth and true, and a VERY welcome upgrade over the daily helicopter "choppa-choppa-choppa" the DWS had come to greet me with. If you OEM guys are looking for proper sidewall protection, THIS IS IT. The sidewall was (235/40-R18) a bit taller than I expected, but that was a WELCOME addition and a far more pleasurable treatment over the road cancer that plauged my daily commute.

The COOLEST fature about these tires are "wear indicators", 3 angular notches in the tire, which tell you the life of the tire, avoiding the need to EVER seek coin to test tread - how cool is that?!

I have noticed 0 difference in performance on dry conditions, but the Motivo blows the DWS away hands down, moreso than ANY rubber I've used. If you experience heavy rain, THIS IS THE TIRE.

3.5k MILES - FIRST ROTATION (Front to Rear Swaps)
Ok, at this point in time I am noticing no diminishing performance level, but the one thing I am CONSISTENTLY hitting is mpg at 27 - 28 per tank, which is above the 25 - 27 I was seeing with the DWS. I have not changed driving characteristics, paths, and it's only gotten HOTTER out, so temperature if of no excuse. So far, I am really digging these tires. Still noticing accelerated wear on the rears when compared to the front, so I'll keep an eye on it...but, well, that's what rotations are for, right?

Let's hope this keeps up, see you all at the next rotation!

Thanks for the review! You have sold me on getting the Motivos in October when my tires will most likely be ready for replacement. One question regarding the wear on the rears: is the the outer edges or just in general?

Also your car looks great!

a friend of mine has these on his car and having ridden in and also driven the car my opinion is that they are great for oem wheels and aftermarket wheels with no stretch. sadly they arent a very good tire for stretching from my research on other forums but for all the non-stretchers out there id also recommend them.

You can get away with mild stretching...I'm stretched The DWS are much softer than the Nitto's, so I can see this.

i stand corrected. still i wouldnt trust these tires for my setup. 225 on a 10' wheel. especially for our platform i dont think alot of azine guys are running a stretch like that so its a great tire for most people.

Are you comparing to DW's or DWS's? I have a set of each. The DW's are pretty loud. The DWS's are much quieter. Totally different tire but the difference is noticeable.
